Lin Rountree feat. Algebra Blessett [2024] - One You (Remix) [Trippin N Rhythm Records]

A track that picked up plenty of airplay from jazz trumpeter Lin Rountree's "The Message" album last June was the only vocal track, "One You" feat. Algebra Blessett.

It has now been released as the latest single but with a remix. It's 25 seconds shorter (3:11 v 3:36) and is a more laid back and mellow take to the album version which we've also included  for comparison.

The song carries an inspirational message and was written and produced by Stokes & Machine and remixed by Rhythm Section Ent.

Lin Rountree [2023] - The Message [Trippin N Rhythm Records] (Full Album)

Classy jazz trumpeter Lin Rountree releases his eighth album "The Message" today. He's release an album every two or three years since his first "Groovetree" in 2005.

The lead single was "It's You" (Jan '23) with the current single being "Solid", also released today. As you would expect from a trumpeter, the album is predominantly instrumental with "A Little Closer" being our instrumental pick which is a driving jazz funker. Guests include New Zealand guitarist, saxophonist and bassist Ryan La Valette on two tracks (including the single "Solid") and Gary Johnson.

Only one vocal track is included, "One You", which features Algebra Blessett. Stokes & Machine are currently riding high with their current single "Freeway" and Rountree & Blessett featured on their last single "All My Black" in Sep '22.

Rountree was born in New York in 1971 growing up in Alexandria, VA, where he learnt to play trumpet aged 11. After graduating from Florida A&M he moved to Detroit. His first three albums were independently released until he signed to Trippin N Rhythm Records in 2013.

Stokes & Machine Feat. Algebra Blessett & Lin Rountree [2022] - ALL MY BLACK [Songking Records]

I believe that Stoke & Machine are Eddie Stokes and James Michael Day. "ALL MY BLACK" appears to be their first single which features Atlanta's Algebra Blessett (who featured with Anthony Davis recently on a reworking of BeBe & CeCe Winans in 1988 titled "Heaven") and Detroit jazz trumpeter Lin Rountree.

They state that the song is their official entry into the new "Songs For Social Change" category for the 2023 Grammy Awards category with a stated mission:

"In the face of anti-critical race theory bills that turn back the clock on sharing our nation’s true racial legacies and histories, this modern twist to the traditional resistance song advocates for all children to be taught unvarnished, fact-based histories of both the policies and people that shaped this country. Lin Rountree [2021] - Fluid [Trippin 'n Rhythm] (Full Album)

More jazz trumpeting (following Willie Bradley already posted today). This time from Lin Rountree from VA, now based in Detroit (who has just featured on Conya Doss's latest album "Through Rose-Colored Glasses" on the track "Show Me".

His new album "Fluid" (his seventh) was released on Friday (18 Jun 2021) and the standout tracks from a soul perspective are "Me For Me" featuring Lindsey Webster on vocal duties and, if you like it more on the jazzy side, "With You" featuring Selina Albright is sensational. 

However, if you like your jazz funk, then there are some other great tracks including "Release" and "FuSion" in particular. This is an excellent album and the best jazz album of the year so far to my ears. Highly recommended.
