José James [2023] - On & On [Rainbow Blonde Records] (Full Album)

When we posted José James' last single "Bag Lady" in Nov' 22 we mentioned that it was from a forthcoming album dedicated to the Bag Lady herself, "The Queen of Neo Soul", Erykah Badu (Erica White). Well that day has arrived and "On & On" is out today (20 Jan '23).

The album opens with her 1996 debut single "On & On" from "Baduizm" and continues with:

"Didn't Cha Know?" ("Mama's Gun" 2000)

"Green Eyes" ("Mama's Gun" 2000) non single

"Healer" ("New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)" 2008)

"Gone Baby, Don't Be Long" ("New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)" 2011)

"Out My Mind, Just In Time" ("New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)" 2011) non single

"Bag Lady" ("Mama's Gun" 2000) ,

James say about the album: "Jazz singing has always been about interpreting the highest level of standards of your time. And for my generation Erykah Badu has been one of the most innovative and incisive songwriters. Her work has proven to be groundbreaking in a social, musical and artistic sense."

On the album, James introduces opportunities for featured horn players Ebban Dorsey and Diana Dzhabbar.

José James Feat. Diana Dzhabbar [2022] - Bag Lady [Rainbow Blonde Records]

José James is set to release his next project in the coming months which is a tribute set to the Queen of Neo Soul  Erykah Badu which will be titled "On & On" due on 20 Jan 2023.

It should come as no surprise then that his new single is a cover of lady's lead single from "Mama's Gun" in the shape of "Bag Lady".

James was born in Minneapolis in 1978 and is described as "A jazz artist for the hip-hop generation, José James artfully blurs the lines between traditional and contemporary jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, pop and rock". To date "On & On" will be his twelfth solo album since his first in 2008.
