D'Sound [2024] - Get Used to It [daWorks Records]

Since their 25th anniversary album "25" in Jan '21, D'Sound have released two singles and reissued their 2003 album "Doublehearted" adding a dozen demos from 2002.

Their first release of 2024 is "Get Used To It" out today.

D'Sound are from Oslo, Norway and were formed in 1993 by drummer Kim Ofstad and bassist Jonny Sjo when they met at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Their singer was Simone Eriksrud who left in 2018 but returned to record a couple of singles and perform live in 2022-23. They feature guest vocalists in her absence and New York's Autumn Rowe featured on the single "Right Now" (Apr '22).

As the new single is co-written by Ofstad, Sip and Erikstrud, we assume it's Erikstrud on lead vocals?

D'Sound Feat. Autumn Rowe [2022] - Right Now [daWorks Records]

Released on Friday but not posted straight away as it was included on D'Sound's album "25" released in Jan 2022 to celebrate their 25th anniversary of the release of their debut album "Spice Of Life" in 1997.

This single release includes the full album version and a shorter edit of "Right Now" which features New Yorker Autumn Rowe on lead vocals. It has an acid jazz feel about it.

D'Sound [2022] - 25 [daWorks Records] (Full Album)

D'Sound is a neo soul group from Oslo, Norway who are celebrating their 25th anniversary as they were formed in 1993 by drummer Kim Ofstad and bassist Jonny Sjo when they met at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, with vocalist, pianist and guitarist Simone Eriksrud joining them but left in 2018. Their debut album "Spice Of Life" followed in 1997. 

It is no surprise then that their latest, and ninth, album (released 21 Jan 2022) is titled "25". Only another 35 to go to catch The Temptations!

They describe their music as a fusion of elements from acid jazz, neo soul, soul, funk, pop and drum’n’bass. 

They appeared on the blog last year with their last single, the funky "Save Some" featuring Macy Gray which is also featured on the album.

Some of the tracks that caught my attention on first listen include the opening track "Flashback" which they released a video for on 31 Dec 2021 included below, the acid jazz flavoured "Right Now" featuring Autumn Rowe and "Run For Cover" featuring Armi Millare, but in fact it's a pretty solid album throughout.
