Willie Clayton [2024] - Let's Stay Together [Endzone Entertainment]

A new version of probably Al Green's best known song, "Let's Stay Together", is released today by Willie Clayton. He recorded another, self-written, song with same the title on his 2006 "It's All About Love" album on Malaco, which is also included below.

Mississippi born Clayton will be well known to southern soul aficionados. He has been singing since the late 60s and recorded six singles for Hi subsidiary Pawn which were all released on a compilation in 1992. His debut album, "Forever" appeared in 1988 but not in his homeland as it was released in UK, Germany and Japan.

He has released around thirty or more albums since then, his latest "Showtime Mr. C" in Oct '23.

Willie Clayton [2021] - Soul Caesar [Endzone Entertainment] (Full Album)

Southern soul stalwart Willie Clayton released a new album "Soul Caesar" on Friday (5 Nov 2021). He must have released well over thirty albums since his first in 1988 but he had been recording since 1974 and released nearly twenty singles before his first album materialised.

It's a southern soul affair with my preferred tracks being the deep cuts "Don't Wanna Be Alone", "It Don't Hurt Now", "Same Girl", "Coming Back To You" and "How You Feel".

Willie Clayton [2002] - Ooh Baby Baby [Endzone #EZR2056]

Not the Miracles classic, but a different song entirely and a nice modern soul dancer.  I'm not sure how well known this is as it's only released on 'The Last Man Standing' (CD only) from 2002.

It starts off with rap until the beat kicks in around 1:16 and turns into a 70s/80s style modern soul dancer.
