Raffaella Zago [2024] - Love Letters [Groovin Recordings] (Full Album)

Milan based Raffaella Zago began studying piano aged eight becoming a classical pianist and then studied opera singing. She attended the CPM Music Institute in Milan where she received a degree in pop-rock singing presenting a thesis titled 'Black music from the 90s to today'.

Raffaella Zago released her third single "Zoso", in March. It, along with her previous singles,  "Money Trees" (Oct '23) and "Open Your Heart" (Dec '23), feature on her debut album "Love Letters" (12 Apr).

We first came across Ms Zago  when she featured on a cover of Mystique's "If You're In Need" last year with Italian producer duo Crossroads.

All songs are co-written with Max Greco and it's the opening two tracks "Fly Away" and "Still Here" in particular that are doing the business for our ears.

Raffaella Zago [2024] - Zoso [Groovin Recordings]

Raffaella Zago was born in Padua in NE Italy, now based in Milan, and began studying piano aged eight becoming a classical pianist and then studied opera singing. She attended the CPM Music Institute in Milan where she received a degree in pop-rock singing presenting a thesis titled 'Black music from the 90s to today'.

Her latest (and third) single is "Zoso", her first a cover of Kendrick Lamar's "Money Trees" (Oct '23) and second, a self-written song with Max Greco, "Open Your Heart" (Dec '23).

The eagle-eyed will note that Raffaella featured on a cover of Mystique's "If You're In Need" last year with Italian producer duo Crossroads.

Crossroads feat. Raffaella Zago [2023] - If You're In Need [BeYourself Recordings]

We were alerted to this release by Italian producer Crossroads featuring Raffaella Zago a couple of weeks ago when a friend heard it on a radio show unannounced and asked if we knew it. We initially thought it was Mystique who recorded it in 1977 on their self titled album which featured Ralph Johnson (formerly of The Impressions) and was reissued by Expansion in 2017. 

The song is "If You're In Need" written by Grey & Hanks and we believe that it was first recorded by The Ebonys in 1976. As well as Mystique it has been covered by L.T.D. (on "Something to Love") in 1977 and  by Lenny Williams ("Love Current") in 1979.
