Micayla Rivera [2024] - As Long As I've Got You [Black Bird Records]

This Hayes & Porter written song, "As Longs As I've Got You", was originally recorded by The Emotions as an unreleased demo and then recorded on Stax imprint Volt by The Charmels in 1967 and has gone on to gain a large underground following.

The Chamels started out as The Tonettes releasing two singles on Volt in 1963 later changing their name to The Dixiebelles when signed to Sound Stage 7 where they released around five singles between 1963-64. They returned to Volt in 1966 after line-up changes renaming themselves The Charmels and released another four singles. This was their penultimate release.

In 2013 Colemine's Kendra Morris recorded it on her "Mockingbird" album and a Reflex Revison of it appeared in 2019 featuring Jimmy Ruffin. Nicole Bus has used it several times in various mixes of "You" since 2018. It doesn't sound like a sample (not of any of the versions we know at least) so we presume that she is actually singing it?

A new version has been released by Micayla Rivera.

Micayla Rivera [2022] - Don't You Leave Me Baby [Industry Music Group #IMG 1024]

A new digital and vinyl release from Industry Music Group from Micayla Rivera with a cover of  "Don't You Leave Me Baby" which was originally recorded by The Founders on Alabama label Bolivia in 1973.

The Founders were a family group from New York, originally from Alabama, consisting of siblings Cheavoria Edwards, Leroy (Roy) Edwards and F.D. Edwards, who wrote the song, with the latter being replaced by  Pete Pizarr Jr. on this single. It was later recorded as a solo by Cheavoria Edwards under the alias Bobbie Edwards also on Bolivia, they both sound the same, even identical, to these ears?

As a group, The Founders recorded only two known singles, this one and another on Triode in 1971, however, Cheavoria Edwards went on to release around ten singles as Bobbie Roberson, predominantly on Bolivia, and also an album on the label in 1979.

The song was sampled by Ms. Krazie on the hip-hop album track "Baby Don't Leave Me" in 2010.

The vinyl release, containing an instrumental flip side, comes in black or coloured vinyl and .is available from 28 Nov 2022 via Bandcamp. The digital release has been available since 6 Jan '22, but is also available on Bandcamp.

Micayla Rivera [2022] - You've Hurt Me / My Dearest Darling [Industry Music Group]

The second release today from Industry Music Group. Both sides by Micayla Rivera have previously been released digitally last year but it is showing on Bandcamp with a release date of 18 Feb 2022 which I guess must be for the vinyl?

The first side "You've Hurt Me" is a cover of  a C.B. Allen written song and an early recording by Denise Chandler (aka Neicy Deneice Williams) on Lock in 1970 on the flip of her version of Barbara Mason's "Yes I'm Ready". It was also recorded in 1970 by The Lovelites (who Chandler/Williams was a short-term member of) and also by Sunday Williams on Red Balloon, owned by Clarence Johnson on which the The Ledgends also recorded.

"My Dearest Darling" was written by Eddie Bo and Paul Gayten and Bo recorded it in 1958 on Chess and Etta James covered it in 1960 on Argo.
