Jaszy Shavers [2024] - Cruel [THE NEW OLD SCHOOL]

The first release by Atlanta's  Jaszy Shavers since her album "Voyage to Surrender" in Sep '23 is a single "Cruel" released today (12 Feb).

We rated the album highly and stated that we thought that it was one of the best neo soul albums of the year and it featured in our 2023 Top 100 Albums of the Year.

The new single certainly doesn't disappoint, it's a breathy, jazzy little neo soul head nodder that bobs along rather nicely.

Jaszy Shavers [2023] - Voyage To Surrender [Self Released] (Full Album)

Jaszy Shavers (Jasmine Monique Shavers) from Atlanta, GA, released her third full album "Voyage To Surrender", today.

It's a pretty solid set on ten songs with our highlights on first listen being the smooth mellow and jazzy "Isn't Love", "Meet Me Outside", "Borrowed Time" and "Cool" in particular but, as said, it's a strong set and one of the best neo soul albums of the year for us, highly recommended.

It follows "Red Light" from Nov '21. Since then she's released just one single ("Who's Gunna") and a six track EP, "Carolina Soul" with Tavaras Jordan in 2022e and featured on a single "90sSoul" with Kareem Cento Gradi in Jun '23.

Jaszy Shavers & Tavaras Jordan [2022] - Carolina Soul [Self Released] (Full EP)

Atlanta, GA, singer Jaszy Shavers has featured here several times in the last year with a few singles and her sophomore album "Red Light".

She has a new six track EP "Carolina Soul" in collaboration with Tavaras Jordan out today (13 Jul 2022) and a video for one of the tracks "Everything" premiered on YouTube last Friday.

Tavaras Jordan is a new name on me, he is a producer from Johnsonville, NC, who has five albums to his name since 2019. He co-wrote all the songs with Ms Shavers.

I wouldn't say there is a particular killer cut on the album but it is a solid set of mellow neo soul tunes that needs a few listens to fully appreciate. On first listen "All Good", "What You Want" and the opening and title track "Carolina Soul" all sound good to me, but I'm sure the others will sink in after a few listens.

Jaszy Shavers [2022] - Who's Gunna [Self Released]

I think this new single from Jaszy Shavers "Who's Gunna" may be another with an incorrect release date as it is showing as 8 Mar and should perhaps be 18 Mar as it has only seemed to appear on listings this week. However, a video for it was uploaded on her YouTube channel on 9 Mar so maybe it slipped through the cracks.

Jaszy Shavers [2021] - Red Light [Self Released] (Full Album)

I don't know how this album from Jaszy Shavers (Jasmine Monique Shavers) slipped by (possibly because it was released on a Tuesday?) but what a pleasant surprise which she has just notified me of. I commented on a post of her recent single that I'd look forward to a full album and here we have not only one but two as she also released another "Channel Blue" under J. Ard Music on 1 Nov which seems to be an 'experimental'? instrumental album. In addition, she released a six track EP "Summer's Over" on 11 Oct which it seems we all missed, but again appears to be al! instrumentals

"Red Light" is her official debut album released 23 Nov 2021. It's all new music so no re-hashing previous singles. "Session 306" is a short lo-fi interlude which sounds like a demo. I would say that is is more an EP than album as along with the track mentioned above there are another two short tracks / interludes leaving only really four songs "Dark", "Coy", "Your Love" and "All I Wanna Do", which all are very good and I can't decide on any over the others being standout.
