Perhaps best known as one third of innovative and progressive L.A.
collective Sa Ra Creative Partners formed in the 90s,
musician, producer, songwriter and artist
Shafiq Husayn has worked with artists such as Heavy D,
Bilal, Erykah Badu, Dr Dre, Jill Scott, John Legend, Kanye West, Frank
Ocean, Anderson .Paak and Ty Dolla $ign amongst many
others.
He emerged in the early 90s under the alias SLJ (which are his initials
as his real name is Steffon Lester Johns) and recently won a Grammy for
his work on Robert Glasper's breakthrough album "Black Radio".
His latest solo album "So Gold" is his fifth or sixth and features a host of guest artists including
Andersen .Paak on two tracks, one of which is "Crush You" released as a single on 30 May '23. Another two singles
have been released: "No Particulars", the day before album release on 8 Jun, and "Sofas" 21 Apr.
The album is progressive and futuristic and may not be for
traditionalists but the two tracks we'd highlight are the single "No Particulars" and "All Night".
