A new group to these pages is Smug Honey from Southern Rhode Island. Formed in 2018, the group consists of Sam
McCarthy (Ben Sex), Luca Simeone (Robert Immaculate), George Richter
(Goldman Sachs), and Kyle Takata (Max Beef), who all met at a local public
high schools.
After releasing their debut EP "Bonds" in May 2020, the group has turned to Grammy nominated recording engineer
Andrew Oedel to record their debut album "Still Losing Days" 25 Nov 2022.
It's very much a blue-eyed affair which I'd describe as more 'soulful' than
soul which would probably slot into the Yacht Soul category, although they do have a feel of some 80s indie bands as their sound reminds me of Prefab Sprout "When Love Breaks Down"!
The twelve track set includes their last five singles all released since
Sep 2022 "Looking For You", "Wide Awake", "Tomorrow", "Skeleton Key" and "Yesterday Friend". which are probably the best tracks, with "Stargazing" being the choice of the new songs which has a lovely jazz trumpet solo
around 3.5 minutes in, it's a real grower!
