I was sent this single "Mama's Kitchen Table" about ten days ago but overlooked posting it, as it got a little buried in the weekend
release rush, but was reminded of it with it's appearance as a new entry in
this week's UK Soul Chart today at #15.
Both artists supported the great Luther Vandross,
Ivan Hampden Jr. as his drummer and
Paulette McWilliams as his backing singer for 20 years. We
are informed that Paulette appeared on every tour and every album
excepting his last. Paulette met Luther when she was one of Bette Midler's backing singers The Harlettes.
Prior to that she was in The American Breed who later became Rufus and she actually
introduced Chaka Khan to them to take her place. She sang with Quincy Jones
and featured on Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" and has toured with Aretha
and Marvin and so many others. She was a guest on Richard Marzetti's Solar
Radio show on 3 Jun 2022. (The interview commences at 2:11:30 in the podcast
below).
Ivan Hampden Jr. is a four time Grammy winner and, as well as Luther's
albums, has appeared on albums by Ashford & Simpson, Diana Ross,
Roberta Flack, The Temptations, Beyonce, Mavis Staple and Ann Nesby to
name some of the more famous ones.
