Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist
Alexander Simone is a member of Whodat? Live Crew and
is the son of singer/actress Lisa Simone who was the only child of Nina Simone, obviously making Alexender her grandson.
He debuted in 2018 and has released two full albums and around ten
singles/EPs.
You may recall Liquid Soul's "Dysfunction" (2000). Lisa was the lead singer for that track going by just her chosen surname Simone. (She is actually Lisa Celeste Stroud, Stroud being her father Andrew Stroud's name who married Nina Simone and later became her manager).
His latest release consists of three tracks so whether you want to call
it a single, mini EP or EP take your pick.
There is an accompanying video for "Man Down" but I think I prefer track 2 "That Feeling" with the third track "Can't Get Back" probably appealing to those who like the urban side of things as it's
more R&B/hip-hop oriented with explicit lyrics.
For "Man Down" Simone contemplates the weight and pressure of life’s
daily struggles and describes it as "an emotional song that evaluates my life as we slowly transitioned out
of the pandemic. Life hit me from all angles. From bills piling up to
family issues. It was a rough patch that stifled my motivation. I felt
like a "man down'".
