Marvin Gaye Feat. Beverley Knight [2021] - Abraham, Martin & John [Island]

Surprised?  So was I!  This is from a forthcoming album Royal Philharmonic Orchestra "Motown With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (A Symphony Of Soul)". I guess it's in the same class as the new Al Green 'orchestral' album "Give Me More Love" (released two weeks ago), giving some Motown classics an orchestral backing.

"Abraham, Martin & John" featuring Beverley Knight duetting with Marvin Gaye backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has been pre-released today (6 Oct 2021) as a teaser for the full album due on 19 Nov 2021.  I can't say that it's one of my favourite Motown or Marvin Gaye tunes but it does alert you to the forthcoming album which consists of fairly 'obvious' song choices from Motown's vast vaults of hits. It would have been more interesting (and perhaps appealing) had they been lesser known tracks but then it wouldn't sell to the masses!

Click on album image for a full listing of the eleven tracks, all Motown classics given a new lease of life. There is another duet featuring Mica Paris on Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted".

UPDATE 29 Oct 2021 The Jimmy Ruffin & Mica Paris track has now also been pre-released.

Heard Beverly on Radio 2 this morning. She is a breath of fresh air. This version is absolutely gorgeous. I had to stop the car as I was crying so much i couldn't see. Fabulous. Lovely Beverly

I totally agree with you, i was so chocked up when i first heard this beautiful track, i love the original version, but this is equally as good and very moving, love the RPO on this new version, you cannot beat the old songs, they are simply timeless.
