The latest album from The Bamboos 'Hard Up' was released 7 May 2021.
Several of the tracks have already escaped as singes, the title track,
'While You Sleep', 'Power Without Greed', 'Ride On Time' (cover of Black
Box which used samples from Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation') and the latest one 'Nothing I Wanna Know About'.
One of the tracks 'If Not Now (Then When)' features a guest appearance by
Durand Jones.
The two best tracks, for me, are the neo Northern Soul track 'The Thing
About You' and deep retro ballad 'I Just Heard You Leaving'. Many of the
other tracks are Nu Soul/Funk.
The nine piece band from Melbourne have been around now for twenty years,
being formed in 2001. This is their tenth studio album, along with three
live albums to their repertoire. Their lead singer, Kylie Auldist,
has released four solo albums and has also featured on a few Cookin' On 3
Burner's recordings, including the superb
'This Girl' in 2009.
