Papik feat. Nicole Magolie [2023] - Montecarlo Diamonds [Alman Music] (Full Album)

Back in May, Papik and Nicole Magolie released "Montecarlo" which we tipped heavily. Little did we know that it would end up as a full album.

The album is titled "Montecarlo Diamonds" and all tracks feature Nicole Magolie on vocals. It's full of good tracks but the ones, apart from the previous single, that particularly jump out are "Crazy for You", "My Love Is True" and the Latin favoured "Why Don't You Know". If you're regular visitor, you'lll know that we like a good deep ballad or two so "Cupid's Bow" ticks that box. However, as said, all tracks are good and it's one of those rare albums that you can play all through without the temptation to skip tracks.

Papik is a Nu-Jazz project which is the brainchild of Italian producer Nerio Poggi who is pretty prolific having produced sixteen singes and now a third album in 2023.

Nicole Magolie is a South African entertainer (singer/dancer) who is currently a singer at Hotel De Paris in Montecarlo and Saint Tropez so perhaps that's how the title of the new single came about? She released an album of jazz standards "Don't Ever Go" in April 2022 and the May release appears to be only her second single.

Papik presents The Soultrend Orchestra feat. Nadyne Rush [2023] - Let's Fall In Love [Irma Records]

Italian composer, arranger, producer and pianist Nerio "Papik" Poggi is behind The Soultrend Orchestra who have released a new single "Let's Fall In Love" featuring Nadyne Rush.

We think that this one will see plenty of action, as what's not to like? It has a classic modern soul groove with hints of Latin, a tinkling piano and stabs of brass. A sure-fire winner.

Nadyne Rush is an Italian-Haitan singer who has sung with Mario Biondi  and by coincidence (as we posted a new version of Anita Baker's Rapture by Ken@Work "Rapturous" yesterday) she recorded a version of the song on Papik's  "Sound For The Open Road Vol. 2" in 2020 (included below).

Papik presents Sea Breeze [2023] - West Coast Rendez Vous [Irma Records] (Full Album)

Italian producer Nerio Poggi, aka Papik, is having a particularly productive period of late, featuring on singles by LTJ X-Perience, Nicole Magolie and David Florio in the last month as well as this project "West Coast Rendez Vous" with Sea Breeze.

A couple of singles from it have already been released, we posted their cover of Ace's "How Long" in January. and "Biggest Part Of Me" escaped in April.

The album contains 15 tracks each with a featured vocalist, too many to list but you can see them on the playlist below.

The opening song "Chains Of Our Love" sets the scene and we'd suggest that this may be  classified as Yacht Soul because, as the album title implies, it has a 70s/80s west coast blue-eyed soul feel, and if that floats your boat you're in for a treat. Many of the tracks are too pop and white sounding for our particular liking but each to their own.

The tracks we would highlight though are, "How Long" (as we've always had a guilty pleasure for the song), "Movin' On" and "Chains Of Our Love".

The album is available on CD but we had to double take as the price is £28.93 which is more than you would expect to pay for vinyl! Surely it must be an error?

LTJ X-Perience & Papik feat. Anduze [2023] - Best Life [Irma Records] MUSIC VIDEO

A great dance tune born in Italy released and posted on Friday for which we have just noticed has a music video for it premiering later today (16:00 BST.UK time).

Rome based producer Nerio Poggi (aka Papik) is certainly getting himself around in recent weeks featuring on around his fourth release in the last few weeks.  The latest is the new single "Best Life" by LTJ X-Perience on which he features with Anduze.

This one really really kicks, with a heavy bassline, a hint of Marvin Gaye'ish vocals by Anduze and then, on the full length and instrumental versions, the jazz/funk trumpet is introduced (@4:45 on full version) so we recommend listening to the full length version as they are cut out of the Radio Edit.

LTJ X-Perience is a new name to us but is Italian DJ Luca LTJ Trevisi who has been cutting it in top Italian clubs since the 80s so should know a thing or two about moving a dancefloor.

Papik feat. Nicole Magolie [2023] - Montecarlo [Alman Music]

This one is 'instant' and we think is going to be a huge hit on soul charts in the UK so remember where you found it first! Papik feat. Nicole Magolie "Montecarlo" is released today (15 May '23).

Papik Feat. Lo van Gorp & Sea Breeze [2023] - How Long [Irma Records]

A song that has long been a 'guilty secret' of mine is "How Long" written by Paul Carrack and recorded by his Sheffield group Ace as their first single which reached #20 on the UK pop chart in 1974. Ace released a further three singles but none charted and disbanded in 1977.

Carrack later became a member of Roxy Music from 1978-81 (he played keys on "Manifesto", Flesh & Blood" and "Avalon") and then replaced Jools Holland in Squeeze in 1981 playing on their "East Side Story" album but left soon after for a solo career and was also in-demand for session work. He became a member of Mike & The Mechanics, Mike being Mike Rutherford of Genesis.

The song has been covered by a few soul artists including by Danny Williams (1975) Bobby Womack (1976), the recently departed J.J. Barnes (1977), Yazz & Aswad (1993) and Billy Valentine (2017) (who is currently receiving loads of airplay with his cover of "Home Is Where The Hatred Is" posted on day of release). Don't scoff, but Donny Osmond also recorded a credible version in 2007, along with several other less memorable covers of the song by many other artists.

A new version came out last week (13 Jan '23) by Papik featuring Dutch singer Lo van Gorp  (who has featured on Liquid Spirits recordings) & Sea Breeze. Papik is a Nu-Jazz project which is the brainchild of Italian producer Nerio Poggi.
