Jamison Ross [2024] - Say You Love Me [Affective Music]

Originally released on 29 Jan but seems to be being given another push today for Valentine's Day (as it has a date of 14 Feb on Amazon) is a cover of D.J. Rogers "Say You Love Me" by Jamison Ross. A good move as it appears to have been overlooked (as we seem to recall this coming up on our Release Radar a few weeks ago and it didn't register on first listen).

Ross' version splits the difference between Rogers' 5:44 album version ("It's Good To Be Alive" 1975) and his 3:31 single version, clocking at 4:45. It was Rogers' first hit, reaching #51 on R&B chart and his only entry into the Hot 100, scraping in at #98.

A few others have covered the song including CeCe Rogers, Jennifer Holliday and Natalie Cole.

It's the Florida based jazz drummer's second single since his "Jamo" album in Sep '22 which contained several acclaimed tracks such as "Tell Me You Love Me" (a reminder video below) and "One Day At A Time" feat. Avery*Sunshine in particular.

Richie Goods & Chien Chien Lu Feat. Jamison Ross [2022] - Someday We'll All Be Free (Radio Edit) [Richman Music]

Two words .. pure class! Pittsburgh bassist Richie Goods and in-demand vibes and marimba percussionist Chien Chien Lu collaborate on a forthcoming album "Connected" which is due on 13 Jan 2023. 

The third single from the album is a cover of Donny Hathaway's classic "Someday We'll All Be Free" featuring none other than jazz drummer and vocalist Jamison Ross.

The album will include contributions from drummer Allan Mednard (drums), Miki Hayama (keys) and Quintin Zoto (guitar) with special guests vocalists Sy Smith, Jamison Ross and Pastor Dr. Adolfus Lacey, drummers Lil John Roberts and David Frazier Jr, percussionist Danny Sadownick, keyboardist BIGYUKI, Shedrick Mitchell on organ and piano, Brett Williams on keys and Rhodes and Mike King on Rhodes and organ.

Richie Goods is the youngest person ever inducted into the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame. He moved to NYC after graduating from the prestigious jazz program at Berklee College of Music, where he studied under jazz legends Ron Carter and Ray Brown. 

His resume includes performing with artists ranging from the Headhunters, Stanley Turrentine, Lenny White, Milt Jackson, Manhattan Transfer, Walter Beasley, Brian McKnight, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera and includes Grammy award-winning and platinum albums of Alicia Keys and Common and has recently toured with Grammy-winning trumpeter, Chris Botti.

Ross featured on Tank & The Bangas last album "Red Balloon" on "Cafe Du Monde".

On first listen my choice cuts are (obviously) the lead single "Tell Me You Love Me" but from the new songs "One Day At A Time" with Avery*Sunshine and "Stay In The Moment" are the main ones that stand out.
