Great news, one of the best singles of the year by
Juanita Wynn, only previously available via Bandcamp
(20 May), has now got a release today (1 Jul 2022) on all the major
digital platforms. A video for it also premiered on YouTube today (see below).
I wonder if this may give it a boost on the UK's soul
charts as it has dropped out of the Global Soul chart a couple of weeks
ago presumably on the basis of zero points from the Amazon chart.
Juanita Wynn is a Grammy award winning song writer who began writing for Quincy
Jones Music Publishing. She went on to sign for Sony ATV writing for Diana
Ross, Angie Stone. Shirley Murdock, Norman Brown, Destiny's Child and more
recently Lalah Hathaway amongst many others. She received her Grammy for
Lalah's "Lahah Live!" in 2015.
The latest single "Make It Right" is her first since 2020 which was originally only only available
via Bandcamp. It is the first single from a four single release trilogy titled "Blood,
Sweat and Tears".
This is how she describes the song: "This song is for that woman who's not afraid to be vulnerable. The woman who's humble enough to admit when she’s wrong. It's also for the man, mature enough to appreciate her in that vulnerable state, and never take advantage of it. He keeps in mind his own struggles, and challenges as a man. The Ultimate message here is to grow from our mistakes. Growth doesn’t come from keeping score, or deciding to move on to the next love, but it comes from two people who genuinely love each other, deciding to work through their differences, by committing to do whatever they’ve got to do to “Make It Right” when it’s going wrong."
As far as I can ascertain she's only released two singles in 2019 and
2020, an EP in 2011 and an album in 2002.
