Onyx Collective are a fluid and enigmatic, experimental jazz collective of musicians from
all five boroughs of New York formed by saxophonist Isaiah Barr in 2016 who make
impromptu appearances rather than announcing them.
They've released around half a dozen or so EPs/Albums all predominantly
using names on New York streets/areas e.g. 2nd Avenue Rundown, Lower East
Suite pts1,2,&3, Manhattan Special and mainly consist of live recordings. Lower East Suite Pt
3 was their first full studio recorded album.
Their latest single "Tango" was released last Thursday (12 Aug 2021). They will probably be pleased that I would say that it's difficult to categorise, although I wouldn't categorise it as jazz, although there are some jazz elements, sounds rather pop/funk to me with rock guitar towards the end!
