Hot on the heels of another soul music documentary "Summer of Soul" posted last week which premiered in UK cinemas on 16 Jul 2021, another
one is being streamed on HBO Max on 1st Aug. It is an award winning film originally released in 2018 and has a rating on 7.8/10 on IMDB.
Mr. Soul! is a documentary produced by Melissa Haizlip which chronicles a
US TV series "Soul!", hosted by her uncle Ellis Haizlip, which featured black music, politics, literature, dance, and
poetry during turbulent times for black Americans between 1968-73.
The film features performances and interviews with artists such as Stevie
Wonder, Gladys Knight, Al Green Mavis Staples, Kool & The Gang, Patti
LaBelle, Bill Withers, EWF, Billy Preston, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Wilson Pickett and Robert Flack and many more.
