Although released on 1 Jul 2021, "Wasting Time" by Brent Faiyaz has come from out of nowhere to top the
Amazon Hot New Releases as I've not seen it featured in the chart before today.
Seeing the name of Canadian rapper Drake I expected it to be an
R&B/Hip-hop track, so was pleasantly surprised when I listened to it,
although Drake does kick in at 2:50 to 4:05 with you know what!
Brent Faiyaz is Dominican/American singer/songwriter Christopher Brent
Wood from Columbia, MD, now living in L.A., who has been active since 2014 when he uploaded an
experimental music EP "Black Child" onto SoundCloud.
His Spotify profile reads "an international style icon and enigmatic R&B sensation" .. as
I've never heard of him before I thought I'd better check out his discography and he's had one US Hot 100 entry at #71 and, surprisingly, three UK top
100 songs, but despite the low chart rankings, four of his songs have gone
gold (three of which have charted nowhere in the world!) and one platinum! Gold is awarded for 500k downloads or 75m streams
with Platinum being double that, so many must be listening to him!
