I don't normally post funk material but I came across the new album
from Cha Wa (released 2 Apr 2021) and have to say it is one on the most
authentic neo funk bands I have heard. There are so many who try to
emulate the 70s sound, and to my ear normally fail, but these guys have
certainly captured it. Their last album 'Spyboy', released in
2018, was nominated for a Grammy.
They were formed in 2014 in New Orleans and describe themselves as a
Mardi Gras Indian funk band. This is their third album.
The most soulful tracks are 'Bow Down' and 'Love In Your Heart' which
features vocals from Anjelika Jelly Joseph and 'Masters Of War' featuring
Alvin Youngblood Hart.
