Tyra Levone [2022] - Chronicles of Life [Self Released] (Full Album)

Released today (12 Jun 2022) is a sophomore album "Chronicles Of Life" by Tyra Levone (Jackson) from Washington D.C. She released her debut album "Testimony Of A Soul Set Free" in 2017.

Three tracks have already seen the light of day as singles "Keep Steppin'" (Jun 2019), also released on 7" vinyl by Soultownie with "Can't Love You No More" on the flip)  "Wishing On A Star" (Feb 2021) (Rose Royce cover written by Billie Rae Calvin which features the sax of Marion Meadows) and "Hurricane" (Jun 2021).

I haven't had a chance to fully digest the album yet as I've been busy with charts and weekly summaries but "Better Place" is superb as is "Can't Love You More" which is a remastered version from the 2017 original (from her debut album) and still sounds stunning and now even crisper. Not forgetting the great rendition of the Rose Royce classic and "Keep Steppin'" both previously released.

UPDATE (13 Jun): Unfortunately I only noticed this album after the weekly Dirty Dozen had been compiled and posted but a track or two would surely have been included. Having just checked Amazon Hot 100, five tracks from the album are holding positions 1,2,3,4 & 14, (only one day after release) so this looks like it could be another UK soul chart #1 candidate!

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2022... Part 23 (Jun 2022 Wk 23) Spotify Playlist

SoulStrutter selections of the best releases this week
(Jun 2022 Wk 23)
In no particular order other than tempo.

Most tracks in this week's playlist were released in the last week with the exception of Midnight.Blue (2 Jun) and The Ton3s which 'theoretically' was released 31 May but it didn't appear on Spotify until around Thu or Fri this week, it certainly wasn't there on Wednesday as I had to post it from Audiomack as it wan't available on Spotify.

There were quite a lot of good releases this week with many I haven't even been able to get to properly yet, so let's hope there's a few nuggets that haven't been posted yet.

Eleven of this week's fifteen "Neo Dirty Dozen" are females again. Bailey "Again" and AntoneaoSoul "Are You Ready?" are the pair sticking out for me.

I really like the new single, and his last two also posted, from a new name to me, Al 'Mizconcepttion' Boson with "Never Knew Love". A new group to look out for is Midnight.Blue who released a debut single on 2 Jun and have another three coming before the release of their debut album in August.

Two good albums, one from the aforementioned The Ton3s who have re-branded themselves from The Hamiltones (Anthony Hamilton's backing singers) with "We are The Ton3s" and a debut from Manchester's Mica Millar "Heaven Knows" for those who like more of a retro vibe. The latter is this week's choice for SoulStrutter Selection of the Week. Four tracks have already appeared as singles so I've selected two of the better new songs to feature in the playlist.

Brianna Knight [2022] Yes We Can Can [FOTY Records]

Brianna Knight is a singer from New York who has released around eight singles since 2019. Her latest outing, released on Friday (10 Jun 2022) is a cover of The Pointer Sisters first hit. "Yes We Can Can" from 1973 on Blue Thumb written by Allen Toussaint.

It was The Pointer Sisters follow-up single to their popular Northern Soul spin on Atlantic "Send Him Back" released in 1972 but played a few years later. I have only just noticed that Richard Caiton (who has a few well respected and in-demand recordings himself) was one of the writers on it. It seems curious that the writers on both these tracks were from New Orleans and The Pointer Sisters were from Oakland, CA! In fact their first two singles, both on Atlantic, were produced by New Orleans legendary producer Wardell Quezergue.

Saint Jaimz [2022] - You Shoulda Told Me (RADIO EDIT) [Household Name Entertainment]

The latest offering from the quite prolific Stanley James Burton aka Saint Jaimz (released on Friday 10 Jun 2022) is "You Shoulda Told Me (RADIO EDIT)" from a forthcoming EP "The RnB Remedy". The fact that it states radio edit suggests that the EP version may be longer?

Global Soul Chart 11th Jun 2022 (Week 23)

11th Jun 2022
The Global Soul chart broadcast on Sat 11th Jun as it is every Saturday between  5pm-7pm (GMT) on Global Soul Radio.

Each week around a dozen or more 'Breakers' are interspersed with chart entries. These will be posted separately.

NOTE: This week there is an interview included with Morgan Munroe who will be appearing at Global Soul Showcase on 3rd July 2022.

Well call me a 'fortune teller' but I did predict last week in The Dirty Dozen write-up that Blue Soul Ten's new album "This Is Worth It" may well be a Global Soul chart #1 but I didn't expect it to be this week! He replaces Raheem Devaughn in the top slot after his three week run at the top. I think Blue Soul Ten may be there for some time as the only likely candidate to topple him is probably Men At Large as they have a full album due on 24 Jun which might give them a boost but that's two weeks away.

There was another mass clear out with nine new entries and all four predicted, and three suspected, last week have gone along with J. Brown, which I thought might have gone last week, and a surprise drop out from #7 for Thaïs Lona.

Blue Soul Ten was obviously the highest new entry with Sha'Leah Nikole entering at #9.  Scanning through the chart I note that, except for one not posted (Iman Europe), every one was posted here either on day of release (14 of 20) or within a day or two of release.

With so many new entries it's hard to gauge what will drop out next week but I think Kenyon Dixon has had a good run and Ravyn Lenae looks precarious. We could even see the departure of Raheem Devaughn and probably Juanita Wynn. Jordan Lee is hamstrung at #10 for the second week so could also be a casualty next week. I'm not sure that Iman Europe will hang around for another week either. So that's potentially six new entries next week?

Summary: 3 risers, 5 fallers, 3 non-movers and 9 new entries

New Entries: Blue Soul Ten, Sha'Leah Nikole,Naomi Raine, Rockwell Hallman, Jüde, Iman Europe, Rochelle Williams, Lee Wilson, Nia Sultana & Rick Ross

Highest RisersTeri Tobin (+9), Men At Large (+5), Michon Young (+2)

Biggest Fallers: Kenyon Dixon (-8), Raheem DeVaughn (-6), Juanita Wynn (-3)

Losers:  Sabrina Claudio, Reuben James, SunniDread, PJ Morton, J. Brown, Devon Howard, Roszunn, Gavin Holligan, Thaïs Lona
