My selection of the best releases this week (Nov 2021 Wk 47)

In no particular order other than tempo. 

There aren't enough non-original tracks i,e. covers etc. this week so I won't be posting a Covers Dozen this week so instead I've extended the main dozen to twenty tracks.

Whilst there are some 'good' tunes around, nothing has really stood out from the crowd for me personally so choosing this week's SoulStrutter selection wasn't particularly easy but I've chosen Eugene Cole's new single "Together Forever In Love". However, I do also quite like Kraak  & Smaak "Persuade You" and Maverick Sabre "Can't Be Wrong" is definitely a grower. As is often the case though, after living with some of these tunes for a few plays, others will pop out!

Jac Ross [2021] - Never Say [Darkchild Records]

Jac Ross is a new artist from Florida who debuted last year with "It's OK To Be Black".  I've skimmed through his previous singles which is a bit of a mixed bag from gospel, jazz standards and a cover of Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" along with a few EDM mixes of some of them. The best is "Saved" for which I've included a live performance video below along with a cover of my favourite Stevie Wonder songs "Ribbon In The Sky".

His latest single "Never Say" is a more contemporary soulful ballad released 26 Nov 2021.

SoulStrutter Top 30 - 28th Nov 2021

The SoulStrutter Top 30 of the most viewed posts in the last 30 days (i.e. blog readers choices).

Seven new entries into the top 30 this week. Silk Sonic stay top for second week with Will Downing moving up to two and J'Cenae moving up four places to three. The highest climber is JKabel up eleven to four and the highest new entry is Everis which has been receiving loads of airplay prior to release on vinyl only on Friday.

We should see a big reshuffle next week as many will have exceeded 30 days.

Elhae [2021] - FOMO [Motown]

Jamaal 'Elhae' (Every life has an ending) Jones from Atlanta (but born in North Dakota) is an artist signed to Motown for whom he released an album ("Aura III") in April this year having previously produced two for Atlantic.

His latest single "FOMO" was released on 19 Nov 2021.

Thaddeus Exposé Feat. Chris Flowers [2021] - Get Out My Life [Self Released]

I found Thaddeus Exposé Feat. Chris Flowers "Get Out My Life" on a random Spotify playlist not having heard it before and thinking that perhaps it was a new release but in fact it was released on 25 Feb 2021, but as far as I'm aware didn't seem to get much exposure back then so here it is.

This would seem to be his debut solo single and on the same day he released another single "She's Feeling Him" which is essentially an instrumental with spoken word. He followed those two releases with others in March and April. All have a jazz feel and include what sound like a double bass, so I am guessing that he's a bassist? I've included his last single "I've Been A Victim" which I think is the best of his other three.

Digging a bit deeper I found his website and he is from New Orleans and is indeed a jazz bassist. He has a Discogs entry against Marcus Roberts Trio from 1997 so he is certainly not a new artist.

Capers [2021] - 1Hundid [KBO cooky sandwich RECORDS]

A new artist going by the name of Capers released four new singles on 21 Nov 2021 with "1Hundid" being the best of them. I would guess his real name is Anthony Randolph as that's the name on writing credits for them all. Apart from that I can't find any info on the artist who appears to have only released one other single earlier this year in May.
