G.C. Cameron [2021/1976] - G.C. Cameron [Motown #M6-855S1] (Full Album)

I've just noticed that G.C. Cameron's self-titled, sophomore, solo Motown album from 1976 was re-issued digitally on Friday (10 Sep 2021).

The standout tracks are "Me And My Life", his version of the Leon Ware & Pam Sawyer penned "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" (first recorded by Quincy Jones in 1974 on his album "Body Heat" which featured Leon Ware and Minnie Riperton with Al Jarreau chipping in with some vocal effects) "Include Me In Your Life" and "Strong Love".

Up until 1971 G.C. Cameron was lead singer of The (Detroit) Spinners but decided to stay with Motown when the group switched to Atlantic. He later re-joined the group temporarily in the noughties replacing John Edwards who suffered a stroke.

The Global Soul Chart - 11th Sep 2021

Six new entries from Arjuna Oakes & Serebil, Brandy Haze, Elaine E’ssential, B. Golden, The Realm and the highest Victor Haynes at #8.

Six of the ten new entries last week have moved into the top ten with EWF & Lucky Daye just outside at #11. Amaria stays rooted at unlucky #13 and Jay Diggs drops one place. The other (Nico Bryant) drops out.

I don't think it surprised anyone that Carmichael Musiclover took over the spot from Victoria Monét on his third week on the chart, it would have been more of a surprise if he didn't!

I think we will be saying goodbye to Jay Diggs, Will Downing, Kim Tavar, Victoria Monét and Amaria next week and I have a feeling that Arjuna may struggle to stay for another week, so we may have at least six new entries again next week?

I've given up trying to predict what will enter the chart, as I think my musical taste is at odds with the chart, and I don't foresee any of this week's Dirty Dozen getting a place but that doesn't make them bad tunes! Perhaps those that stand the best chance are Marshella Muzic and Wendy B.?

Losers:
Nuwamba, India Ivonna, Jaguar Skills & Omar, Anthony Hamilton, Reva DeVito & Midas Hutch, Nico Bryant

Highest Risers:
Tracy Cruz (+13), Mandee (+10), Kloud 9 Feat. Maysa, Saint Jaimz Feat. Maxine Jones and Gwendolyn Collins Feat. Black Orchid & Tey Yaniis (+7)

Biggest Fallers:
Will Downing (-11), Kim Tavar and Victoria Monét (-9)

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 32 (Sep 2021 Wk 36) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Sep 2021 Wk 36)
In no particular order other than tempo.

Some really soulful tunes from some new names this week, several are debut releases from artists that few of us will have previously known.

Whilst I have not featured any of their tracks in this week's Dirty Dozen, the SoulStrutter Selection of the Week was an easy choice as the debut album from veteran UK artists Stevie Paul and Lol Williams as Down To Earth is quite superb and I felt that I couldn't isolate just one track to showcase them, therefore their new album "Still Ridin' High" is this week's choice. Homegrown (UK) blue-eyed soul of the highest quality!

There are some really good tunes amongst this week's dozen for lovers of 'real' soul music. Daphne Dash "Hold On" is a real grower which gets better with each listen, another track on the EP is also pretty good "Here With Me". Cha Star "Vibe" is also worth highlighting as another great track.

SoulStrutter Top 20 - 12th Aug 2021

The SoulStrutter Top 20 of the most viewed posts in the last 30 days (i.e. blog readers choices not mine!).

Carmichael Musiclover is still miles ahead but the surprise is that views of Luna Elle have surged and the 'belated' entry for Kool & The Gang's new album which has been out for over three weeks. The pesky 'oldie' from Sex On Toast is not only hanging on but is increasing in views. Georgie Sweet re-enters after a couple of week's absence and I suspect a few have benefitted from being SoulStrutter Selection of the Week i.e. Shannon Lauren CallihanRenay ShakaraJosh Berkeley and LeVelle & Anthony Hamilton.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 25 (Sep 2021 Wk 36)

My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples or new releases with a retro feel (Sep 2021 Wk 36). (In no particular order).

No covers per se this week but a few 'samplers' from Alicia Keys whose new track samples Tyrone Davis "In The Mood", Babyboy which uses elements of The Edwin Hawkins Singers' "Oh Happy Day" and Yummy Bingham samples S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care".

A reissue from last year from Ms Tonya Chereese with a deep soul tune and Cliff Nobles 1966 Northern Soul classic.

The remainder are mainly retro style tunes, a pair of 80s throwback tunes from Adeshsa and the rest will appeal to Northern / Modern Soul devotees Moses Patrou, Curtis Harding and The New Mastersounds who have released the same song with three different featured artists Adryon de Leon, Josh Hoyer and Lamar Williams, I've chosen the Josh Hoyer version.

To make up the dozen this week I've added a couple of dance oriented tracks Slinkie and Digital Liquid.
