Estee Pierce [2021] - Celebrate You [Branamian]

Yesterday I received Estee Pierce's new single but only posted a short sample until I got Estee's approval to post the full track.

He's come back to me today with a release date of 4 Jul 2021 (next Sunday) and has given the nod to post the full track, so here it is.

If you didn't see yesterday's post, I said that I think this is going to be another hit to follow up his recent Global Soul chart #1 "Spoil You" which topped the chart for two weeks and spent several weeks on the chart, only dropping out yesterday.

Estee is a very humble man (he was interviewed on the chart show the week his single made #1) and released a superb album "Life Stories" in 2016. He's an independent artist making 'real' soul music who doesn't quite realise how good he is. Check out the album and his two recent singles and if you like them, then please support him by making a purchase so that he can keep bringing us great music.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 21 (Jun 2021 Wk 25) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Jun 2021 Wk 25).

There has been a deluge of releases, especially towards the end of the week, which means I've had a lot of music to trawl through to bring you this week's Dirty Dozen. However, whilst there has been plenty of material, there is nothing that particularly stands out from the crowd this week, or maybe I'm just 'ear blind' with so much to choose from?

It's not surprising to see last week's SoulStrutter Selection of the Week (Kadeem Tyrell & Omar - "All My Love") entering the Global Soul chart at #9 yesterday.

This week's selection goes to an album for the first time. The one I raved about during the week from Hawaiian outfit "Bound" which I couldn't feature in this week's Dirty Dozen as the second half of the album, which contains the best track  "Right Timing" which I would have featured, is not on Spotify.

Another track I raved about is Doug Payne & Carman Bryant's wonderful unreleased track "Take A Chance" from the late 70s, is also not on Spotify. It is the highest viewed post in the last 7 days by a country mile having more than twice the views than the next placed post.

The purpose of the Selection of the Week is to give a release a boost so, as "Take A Chance" seems to be getting plenty of attention already, I've chosen "Bound" to give it some additional promotion.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 14 (Jun 2021 Wk 25)

My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples (Jun 2021 Wk 25). (In no particular order).

It's extended to 18 this week as I haven't posted a list for the last two weeks as there haven't been sufficient releases to complete a dozen so the last six tracks are from last week.

All are covers, reissues, remixes or samples except for Bridge City Revival which is included here as it's a retro style track.

The Global Soul Chart - 26th Jun 2021

This week's show was hosted by Russ Cole in Franklin Sinclair's absence.

Five new new entries this week, all of which have already been posted.

V9 Collective knocked off the top spot after two weeks by Conya Doss who entered at #2 last week with her new album "Through Rose-Colored Glasses" which I predicted last week would be a cert. for #1 this week (no brainer really!).  My tip on Tessie two weeks ago has finally materialised with an entry at #16, and last week's tip for Kadeem Tyrell & Omar is this week's highest new entry at #9 (another no brainer!).

Losers:
Melonyx, Estee Pierce, Te'lor Sharise (lasted only one week), Hassan Farrow and Teri Tobin.

Highest Risers:
No big movers this week
Wil Key (+4), Niia (+4), Reuben James (+3), Children Of Zeus (+3)

Biggest Fallers:
Mississippi Humminboy (-8), Vula (-7), Jane Handcock (-6)

Raja-Nee' [2021] - Come Get This Love (The Samuel Archer Remix) [JARF Music Group]

Raja-Nee' "Come Get This Love", one of the top tunes this year (although originally issued on ThaSaint's album "This Is Us" last Sep), is getting a new mix from Samuel Archer due out on 2 Jul 2021.

I posted a sample yesterday, but with Raja-Nee's approval here now is the full version prior to release next Friday.

Raja-Nee's real name is Alicia Renee Knott-Freeman (but answers to Renee in the main) and she told me the story of how she became known as Raja-Nee'.

"My producer at the time asked me what did I like, I said reggae! He said Reggae Nee’, Raga Nee’ and then Raja-Nee’, I said that’s it!!! I knew it meant ruler or king. But it was confirmed on a flight to Los Angeles an Indian flight attendant said, do you know what your name means? I said yes, a ruler. She said Nee meant born as, so it means “Born as a ruler”. I was like perfect! "

She was active in 1994 and released a few singles and an album "Hot & Ready" and had a UK #42 hit with 'Turn It Up' in Mar.1995.

She was spotted by Marshall Thompson of The Chi-Lites who mentored her and she toured with The Chi-Lites and performed on their 1990 "Just Say You Love Me" album. Later she signed to a deal with Auto & Cherokee who got her an audition with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis which led to a solo project on their Perspective label where they produced her hit track "Turn It Up" which also featured on "Low Down Dirty Shame" movie soundtrack in 1994.

In 2020 she re-emerged from her musical hiatus with a vengeance with "Come Get This Love" making a noise, especially in the UK.

The song was written by Richard Wilford & Raja-Nee’, produced by and featuring John ThaSaint Morris & Wilfred Frelix and first appeared on ThaSaint's album "This Is Us" in Sep 2020. It was released as a single by Raja-Nee in Mar 2021.

Raja-Nee’ desired to have a remix produced and teamed up with Samuel Archer (the founder of “Muzilog” an online magazine publication) to produce a remix track. "Come Get This Love (The Samuel Archer Remix)" will be available for sale on July 2, 2021.

Lion Babe & Trinidad James [2021] - Get Up [Self Released]

The latest single from NY duo Lion Babe (Jillian Hervey and producer Lucas Goodman (a.k.a. Astro Raw)) which features Trinidad James (aka Nicholaus Joseph Williams), is one of their better, and more soulful releases. It was let loose on Friday (25 Jun 2021).

This will be their sixth single released this year, having released two in Feb and then one per month since. Three of them have been featured on the blog, their version of "Native New Yorker" in Feb, "Never Before" in Apr. and "Signs" last month.

Shandi [2021] - Something About Shandi [Go Shandi Music] (Full Album)

What appears to be a debut album from an artist named Shandi (another I can find nothing about) was released 25 Jun 2021.

There is another artist with the same name who is a reggae singer, so I don't think she's the same artist.

The only tracks that trigger any interest are "Lose Control" and "Dead Zone".

HJ Soul [2021] - The Only Love [Self Released] (Full EP)

A new 6 track EP "The Only Love" by HJ Soul (who I can find nothing about) released 20 Jun 2021. He's released three EPs and two singles since 2019.

The EP is pretty consistent throughout with "You" "Forever And A Day" and "Separate" probably being the the top tracks.

Symphani Soto [2021] - Under The Sun [Bizness Boi] (Full Album)

The debut album ("Under The Sun") from Symphani Soto was released on Friday (25 Jun 2021).

She has recently been on the Global Soul chart with "Try" (included on the album), but, to my ears at least, there is nothing better than that on the album.

Her latest singe is "Just A Moment", which superseded "Try", was released on 28 May. She has just released a video for "Just Enough" (on 25 Jun), so I would imagine that this will be the next single.

I think this is one of those albums you need to listen to a few times to appreciate. It leans too much towards R&B for my personal taste. The 'better' soul tracks are "Try", "You Don't Care" and "Venus".
