The Legendary Blue Notes Feat. Jean Carne [2021] - Is It Still Good To Ya [Society Hill]

Barely two weeks ago, on 20 Jul, I posted another single from this combination i.e. The Legendary Blue Notes featuring Sugar Bear and Jean Carne. which was a cover of a Harold Melvin  & The Blue Notes song "You Know How To Make Me Feel So Good" on Butch Ingram's Society Hill records.

They have another single due for release on Friday (6 Aug 2021). It's their version of the Ashford & Simpson classic, and title track to their 1978 album, "Is It Still Good To Ya" which was the follow-up single to "It Seems To Hang On". It was obviously far too good to trouble the Hot 100 but did reach #12 R&B. It was also recorded by the late Teddy P. on Philly Int. as a single in 1980 which surprisingly didn't even enter the R&B charts!

Jean Carne is now 74 who recorded some fantastic songs on Philly Int. in the 70s/80s. It is criminal to realise that she only had one solitary Hot 100 hit which was as a featured vocalist with Norman Connors in 1975 on a duet with Michael Henderson with "Valentine Love", and even that only just squeezed in  to Hot 100 at #97!

Sugar Bear is Arthur Aikens who is a member of the Original Blue Notes.

I came across some rare footage of the promo video Ashford & Simpson recorded for the song, so have posted below. It must be one of the greatest soul ballads of all time, I loved it then and still love it now. I also found a live performance of the song by Teddy P.. but have no idea where or when, as it doesn't say, but looks like a TV show performance.

The Paradise Projex [2021] - The Paradise Projex [Expansion #EXPAND 123]

The Paradise Projex is a music project run by, songwriter, musician and music director Phil Edwards and joins musician and producer Karlos Edwards for this brand new entity made of some friends new and old. Paul Johnson features on “Feels Like Home”

It will be available on 12" vinyl but owing to the delays in pressing the limited edition 4 track vinyl EP, Expansion are offering 2 of the tracks exclusively for download on BandCamp for 2 weeks only. There are no previews available on BandCamp so I've embedded samples from Juno for now as the EP is not available until 29 Oct 2021.

Track List:
Feels Like Home
For This Love
One Mind, Two Hearts
With You

I noticed that one of the songs is a cover of UK band Paradise's 1983 hit (#42 UK Pop Chart) "One Mind, Two Hearts", which I've posted for any unfamiliar with it. Paradise's line up at that time included Paul Johnson prior to his solo success in the late 80s.

Looking further into it, I realised that Phil and Karlos Edwards were original members of Paradise, so assume that this is a comeback?

As you can see from the comments below, I received a message from Phil Edwards who wishes to clarify that The Paradise Projex is not a reincarnation of Paradise and that whilst Paul Jonson features on "Feels Like Home" he is unlikely to feature of the forthcoming full album, it will feature a single, as yet, unspecified vocalist. Please read his full comment.

Don-E [2021] - Summer Bounce [Self Released] (Full EP)

I originally posted Don-E's new EP "Summer Bounce" last week but omitted a couple of tracks. One omitted in particular was cover of Bob Marley's "Stir It Up" which is a duet with Hil St. Soul. However, a few days later a new (better) mix of it was promoed.

I also notice that now that it is officially released (30 Jul 2021) it has expanded from six tracks to eight tracks. So here it is in it's full glory.

P.S. ONLY available from BandCamp I believe.

iLEVEL [2021] - YBSA (Your Beauty Stands Alone) [Riverfish Records]

This has been out a month now (2 Jul 2021) but I noticed that it has appeared in the Breakers chart this week. It was going OK, but then of course we have to have the obligatory 20 second rap injection at 2:20 ... which is probably why I didn't post it back then!

iLevel were a UK jazz/funk band from the 80s signed to Virgin. They had one chart hit "Give Me" from around  eight singles and two albums. They had a few more tunes which were club hits and / or big on the rare groove scene.

Two of the original members Sam Jones & Joe Dworniak have got back together and released a new single "YBSA (Your Beauty Stands Alone)".

Thomas Motter [2021] - Time [Self Released] (Full album)

Thomas Motter is a German keyboardist from Heidelberg. Prior to the latest album "Time" (released on 26 Jul 2021) he has released five albums debuting in 2005 "No Return" (Discogs states 2003 but his website says 2005). All his previous material appears to be only available on CD not digitally as only his latest album is listed on DSPs.

His latest album, his first since 2017, features seventeen tracks and all but two feature guest artists. The only familiar name is Ty Causey on "New Morning" which is one of the better tracks along with "Closer 2 U" which features Lenora Jaye, "Not Too Long Ago" feat. Michelle Bradshaw, "Loving You Forever" feat. Jimi Carrow, "Marching To The Beat Of Time" feat Daniel Denmark (on rap) but there's a nice unnamed female vocal and "One Day" feat Fatma Tezegul with a jazzy stepper. There's probably a couple of others I missed on first listen.
