Bobby Womack & Peace [1972] - Sweet Caroline (Good Times Never Seemed So Good) [United Artists #50946]

As a consolation to England football supporters after yesterday's defeat on penalties in the Euro final to Italy, here's 'The Last Soul Man's' rendition of the song adopted by the England team and supporters. It was actually the official A side to Harry Hippie in 1972.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 23 (Jul 2021 Wk 27) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Jul 2021 Wk 27).

I'm a day late this week as nothing was posted yesterday (11 Jul) as there were the Wimbledon Men's Final and the Euro 2020 Football final to contend with. Sadly the 'ever predictable' result for England: a loss after extra time on penalties! I don't know the full statistics for sure, but I would have to guess that England must be the unluckiest team in international championship finals losing on no fewer than 7 occasions out of 10 penalty shoot outs: World Cup '90 SF (Germany), Euro '96 SF (Germany), World Cup '98 last 16 (Argentina), Euro '04 QF (Portugal), World Cup '06 QF (Portugal), Euro '12 QF (Italy), Euro '20 F (Italy)

Not a particularly great week for new releases this week. Kadeem Tyrell & Omar "All My Love" (the SoulStrutter Selection of the Week three weeks ago) stays at #1 on the latest Global Soul chart for the second week and last week's selection RASiDA enters at #15 and another contender Estee Pierce enters at #20. Melonyx's new EP Black Elixir, mentioned last week, is this week's highest new entry at #9. No entry unfortunately though for Tygressa, next week perhaps. No appearance either from my other tips Izo FitzRoy or Quisha Wint, the former being an outsider but I'm surprised that Quisha Wint has not dented the chart yet.

This week's selection of the week was an easy, no brainer, the new Colemine release by Alanna Royale "Fall In Love Again".

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 16 (Jul 2021 Wk 27)

My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples (Jul 2021 Wk 27). (In no particular order).

There's a couple of extra tracks this week as there are some tracks from the "Get Your Point Over!" compilation that couldn't be left out. I would also have posted the album track from Jewell Booker "Made It All Up" which samples Tyrone Davis' "In The Mood" but it seems that the album "Love Sick 2020" has been withdrawn as it is no longer on any of the DSPs

The Global Soul Chart - 10th Jul 2021

Seven new entries this week, all of which have already been posted.

Kadeem Tyrell & Omar stay in the top slot for the second week. Two of my three tips from last week made it into the chart (RASiDA and Estee Pierce) The other is Raja-Nee', but for some reason remixes don't tend to fare so well on the chart, and my outsider Tygressa didn't make it this week but I still have high hopes for it.

I would like to think the new Soulstrutter Selection of the Week this week, Alanna Royale "Fall In Love Again" will do well, but have a feeling that perhaps it's not everyone's cup of tea, as it's  retro, I hope I'm wrong, as I love it. Similarly with Lady Wray played as a breaker this week.

The Global Soul Chart - 10th July 2021 - The Essential 5 & The Breakers

This week's 'Essential 5' and 'The Breakers' played by Franklin Sinclair on the Global Soul Chart Show which is aired between 5pm-7pm every Saturday on Global Soul Radio.

He plays the Essential 5 at the start of the show, whilst The Breakers are interspersed between chart entries.

A podcast of the show is posted each week on Mixcloud or listen on Global Soul Chart post.

The Essential 5

From last week's Essential 5 only Estee Pierce made it into the chart this week. Three of the five have already been posted.

1 - Areiyah Seren - Keep Moving
(released 25/06 / posted 02/07)

2 - Femme It Forward - What You Deserve (Big Femme Energy Vol. 1 LP)

(released 29/06 / posted 05/07)

5 - Motte - Flower Pot (The Things That I Love LP)
(released 27/05 / not posted)

The Breakers

Ten breakers this week, and only three not yet posted, Devin Tracy, ebdl & Miller Blue and Sasha Laine.

From last week's breakers Rasida (as predicted), along with Melonyx's EP Black Elixir and D Mills, were Global Soul chart entries this week #15, #9 and #14 respectively. I still don't think Hill St. Soul "Blessed" has been released yet but from the number of views it's had on the blog I suspect it will be  high chart entry when it does get released. One I'm fairly sure may make an entry next week is Tygressa.

Another post getting a lot of attention is Spechel "Come By" which has more than double the views of the next highest viewed post in the last seven days, which is Hill St. Soul.

My tips to chart from this weeks breakers are Lady Wray and Alanna Royale, although both have a bit of a retro feel which might hold them back.

Lady Wray - Games People Play
(released 30/06 / posted 06/07)

Makeda Iroquois - Ooh (Demo LP)
(released 04/07/ posted 07/07)

Devin Tracy - Therapy

Sidibe Feat. Devin & Morrison [2021] - Ready Enough [Self Released]

Alanna Royale - Fall In Love Again

LaConda Davies [2021] - Be Your Man's Side Piece [Mustaquim Records]

LaConda Davies is from Arkansas, MS and has been releasing music as a featured artist for over a decade. She embarked on her solo career in 2016 with the release of "There Is No Way" and to date has released seven singles.

Her new single "Be Your Man's Side Piece", which is a traditional soul ballad, was released on 2 Jul 2021. There are two versions, one labelled 'radio edit' but are both the same length, so I 'assume' that the radio edit is a clean version.

Nagster Ellazim [2021] - You Don't Have To Worry [Self Released]

Nagster Ellazim is a music producer from London.  All their Spotify profile gives away is that they 'make a few beats here and there'!

I'd imagine that this samples something that I don't immediately recognise, probably from the 90s/00s? If the title's ("You Don't Have To Worry") a hint, both En Vogue and Mary J. Blige released songs with the same title in the early 90s, but I don't readily recognise either in this sample?

They released another track the same day "Mixed Feelings" and have since released another on 2 Jul "Thinking" and yet another on 9 Jul "That's On You", all three are lo-fi instrumentals.
