The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 16 (May 2021 Wk 20) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (May 2021 Wk 20).

My selected track of the week is Timothy Bloom with 'Losing My Mind', although there were a few very good late contenders, especially in the Global Soul Essential 5 and Breakers but, as I didn't find them until the show went out, I'll stick with the late find of Timothy Bloom.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 11 (May 2021 Wk 20)

My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples (May 2021 Wk 20). (In no particular order).

A couple of tracks are new releases but have a throwback feel so have included them here e.g. Adesha and Joseph Malik.

The Global Soul Chart - 22nd May 2021

Michon You stays at #1 for the second week. Disappointing to see Tom Bailey only last a week on the chart, but at the same time, pleased to see last week's 'SoulStrutter Selection of the Week', Estee Pierce, enter straight in at #3.  Latanya Alberto is getting a lot of airplay at the moment and another few that were posted hot off the press, Melonyx, Rati and Lamone, all enter this week's chart.

Eight new entries this week, all of which have already been posted.

Losers:
The ones making way for the new entries are Deirdre Gaddis, Ryan McCarty, Sunni Colon, Tree Feat. Swiss, Sondra Love, SunQueen Kelcey, Blue Soul Ten, Tom Bailey

Highest Risers:
Teedra Moses (+14), Ledisi (+7), Mayfeel (+4)

Biggest Fallers:
Amber Mark (-8), Jonas Winge Leisner (-6), Reel People (-6)

The Global Soul Chart - 22nd May 2021 - The Essential 5 & The Breakers

This week's 'Essential 5' and 'The Breakers' played by Franklin Sinclair on his Global Soul Chart Show which is aired between 5pm-7pm every Saturday on Global Soul Radio.

He plays the Essential 5 at the start of the show, whilst The Breakers are interspersed between chart entries.

A podcast of the show is posted each week on Mixcloud. If you want to listen to the whole show then the podcast is posted on the latest 'The Global Soul Chart - 22nd May 2021' post.

The Essential 5

Only one previously posted prior to show, the others all posted today.

Yuphoric & K.ZIA & Sedric Perry - Meant To Be (released 30/04 / posted06/05)

Jacob G. - Never Late (released 10/05 / posted today)

Vula - Dreaming (released 21/05 / posted today)

Yuma Hara Feat. Monique Marian - Stay With Me ('Reality' LP) (released 12/05 / posted today)

Vanessa Jamie - Fall (Sunset EP released 21/05 / posted today)

The Breakers

Only six breakers played again this week as another interview was included in the show, this time with Michon Young who spends her second week on the top spot.

Five of last week's six breakers were new entries into the Global Soul chart this week i.e. Estee Pierce, Rati, Melonyx, Latanya Alberto and Iyamah. Estee Pierce was the blog's 'Selection of the Week' last week and Franklin picked up on Melonyx from the blog as it was posted on day of release, although I tipped the other track 'Energy'.

Only two of the breakers have been previously posted, one of which I only found yesterday and 'prompted' Franklin to include as a breaker which he gave the blog a 'shout' for on the show. Thanks Franklin!.

Orgone Feat. Adryon De Leon - Show Me (released 21/05 / posted today)
I've posted a few of Orgone's releases recently, two of which were covers, and this is the best one I've heard from them so far.

V. Cartier - Touching (released 21/05 / posted today)

LaBlue & Astrønne - Blue (released 07/05 / posted 21/05)
Heard this first on New Music Hour a few weeks ago.

DWN & Navy - With Love (released 21/05 / posted today)
A 'ragga rap' version of Anita Baker's 'Sweet love'

Timothy Bloom - Losing My Mind (released 14/05/2021 posted 22/05/2021)
Quite possibly next week's selection of the week?

Boscobel - You Dear (released 21/05 / posted today)
Blue-eyed neo soul

Boscobel [2021] - You Dear [Saylor Creative]

The last of the Global Soul breakers is a debut single from husband and wife (according to StereoFoxduo Boscobel. I can't find much info on them but they/she sounds like a blue-eyed singer.

The song is written by blue-eyed soul singer Taylor Dukes (who is in the Eva Cassidy school of soul), so I wonder if it is her on vocals, as it does sound quite like her?

Yuma Hara Feat. Monique Marian [2021] - Stay With Me (Reality LP) [P-Vine]

Japanese multi-instrumentalist Yuma Hara was born into a musical family, his father is guitarist Tomoya Hara and his grandfather, Nobuo Hara, is leader of Sharps & Flats. He is yet another graduate of Boston's Berklee College of Music, but has now relocated to Tokyo.

'Stay With Me' is the lead single from his second album 'Reality' released 12 May 2021 on the respected Japanese P-Vine label, and a  very nice Jazz Funk infused track it is too set at around stepper pace. It features Monique Marian on vocals who was born in Jamaica but moved to Japan.

The final track featured in this week's Global Soul Essential 5. 'I like this one, I do'! ... or as D-Mac would say 'Get to know this one'!

I've only had a cursory skim through the album but it also sounds very good if you like your soul on the jazzy side. I'll probably post it later once I get through the singles.

Vula [2021] - Dreaming [ZuluGirl Records]

The second artist featured today from East London, unlike Vanessa Jamie though, Vula (Malinga) has been around for twenty years singing backing vocals for huge UK pop artists like Adele and Sam Smith and was a member of Basement Jaxx and also appeared on Incognito's 2016 album 'In Search Of Better Days'.

Vula was born in US to American/South African parents but raised in Hackney, London. Her full name is  Nonkululekho Nomvula Malinga, a bit of a mouthful, so it's not surprising that she shortened it to Vula.

She released her debut EP 'If U Want It' in 2008 and  has just released her latest solo single on 21 May 2021, having featured on a dance track with Marc Benjamin & Afrojack earlier this year 'Start Over Again'.

The current single should have across the board appeal as it's quite traditional, but also with a contemporary feel.

Another in this week's Global Soul Essential 5.
