SoulStrutter selections for Jul 2022 Wk 29 of the best non-original
songs i.e. cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and
new songs using samples or new releases with a retro feel. (In no particular order).
Barbara Lynn features again as the Soul Brother reissue due on 7" vinyl was release digitally on Friday.
A new Captain Sky album was released on Tuesday which contains three covers, two of which have also been previously released i.e. Marvin's Message (a reworking of "What's Going On") and Blue Magic's "Look Me Up". The other track featured is Bloodstone's "Natural High".
The Numero Group has reissued two Elvin Spencer singles, the 1970 Winner version of "Lift My Hurt" along with the Twinight 1971 version. In addition they have (re)issued a previously unreleased track from Lou Ragland which has only appeared on a 2016 Japanese CD previously.
Grady Tate's promo only version of Jon Lucien's "Lady Love" is due out on vinyl from Expansion, but a digital release appeared on Friday with the original B side from the promo (Expansion is releasing his version of Van Morrison's "Moondance" on the flip). Hence it is both a reissue and a cover.
A new album from Barry White protege Gloria Scott is due in Sep and the first single from it is a previously unreleased recording from the 70s Barry White sessions.
U-Nam released the second volume of California Funk Machine consisting of 80s cover and the best of the bunch for me is an instrumental version of Maze's "Can't Get Over You".
Making it up to a dozen is a 60s throwback new release from Ava Lamert.
