UK soul legend Omar (Lye-Fook) has certainly been getting around in the
last year featuring on many recordings. Most recently with Dave Lee
on "Starlight" (Apr 2022) and notably last year with Kadeem Tyrell on the soul chart
topping "All My Love" (Jun 2021), Le Commandant Couche-Tôt "L'été indien" (Oct 2021), Jaguar Skillz "Loving Someone" (Aug 2021), Joe Pisto "I Can Try" (Jul 2021) and in 2020 on GLOW "Ten Of Diamonds" LP on "Give Myself To You" (Mar 2020) and many others
interspersed.
Omar was awarded an
MBE
in 2012 for his services to music and in Jul 2022 joined the cast of the
long-running British soap opera
Eastenders which is a BBC drama based in the east end of London that has been
running since 1985.
For his latest outing he features with
Ronnie Herel
on "A Night We Dream" best described as soulful house with broken beats. The two radio edits
here will be supplemented with another four mixes, DJ Spen & Reelsoul,
Extended Afro Soul Mix, Instrumental and DJ Spen & Reelsoul
Instrumental in due course on 12 Aug 2022 (available now from
Traxsource).
Ronnie is a former BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ until 2012 when he left and later
joined
Mi-Soul Radio
where his is now the Head of Music. In the late 80s/early 90s Ronnie was
one half of duo Quartz with Dave Rawlings who had a UK top ten hit with a
cover of Carole King's "It's Too Late" which featured (introduced) Dina
Carroll in 1991.
In June Ronnie covered Skipworth & Turner's 1985 club track "Thinking About Your Love" which is well worth checking out.
