There have been very few new releases worth posting this week so far,
mainly owing to Ace/Kent completely dominating the new releases section of
Amazon yesterday with no fewer than 187 pages of their digital releases of
mainly compilation CDs.
Therefore, I have a real treat for lovers of vintage soul music, a one
hour podcast of tunes that SoulStrutter has selected for inclusion on DJ
Kool Keith's weekly Soulful Slow Jams show. Since posting his podcast,
Keith has requested that I select one of my favourites for inclusion each week. So
these are all the selections this year so far plus two that are in the
pipeline for upcoming shows to extend it to a full hour.
They are predominantly deep soul tunes from the 60s and 70s, with a few mellow slow jams including, for me, the best version of a song
recorded by The Dells by Chuck Cissel and the superb Main Ingredient song
sampled by Alicia Keys. I've noticed that the males dominate proceedings
with only one female vocalist so I'll have to work on that!
Soul connoisseurs will know most of them but a few might be new to others.
They are from my personal collection but I think most are available
digitally in some form via compilations except for Eddie Finley which was
reissued on vinyl recently by Hit And Run and Carstairs which is only
available on a 1995 CD compilation ("Essential Old School Harmony Dancefloor Classics Volume 1") or a bootleg
South Union
single.
