Terrill Carter [2023] - Feels Like This [Self Released] (Full Album)

Baton Rouge native Terrill Carter's highlights to date are opening for Faith Evans, Eric Benet, & Tweet. Anoraks may recognise her name from a Paul Tillman Smith produced compilation a while back: "The Sounds Of Oakland - Music From The Streets" where she featured on the track "Emergency".

She released her debut solo album "Feels Like This" yesterday (17 Feb '23) which was co-written and co-produced by veteran producer Preston Glass  and  Christian Belnavis. Ghostbuster himself, Ray Parker Jr. features on John Mayer's "Gravity". The album includes a cover of Teddy's, Gamble & Huff penned, "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration" (1981).

Excluding the two tracks already mentioned, the remaining nine tracks are original songs with the standout on first listen being the up-tempo "Had Enough" but there a few 'growers' on there.

Ronfo & Kindred Spirits Orchestra Feat. Sandi Everett / Lee McDonald [2023] - Don't Let Him Get The Best Of You / Let's Play Luck [Izipho Soul #ZP-86]

The second Izipho Soul 7" vinyl release scheduled for 1 Mar 2023 (along with Norman Hutchins) consists of two sides, written, arranged and produced by Ron Foster.  A third will be announced shortly.

The top side is a new and extended version of Whirlwind's 1975 single "Don't Let Him Get The Best Of Youwhich was a meagre 2:42 when initially released on 7" in 1975 (flipped with "Something, I Can Feel Something") It was released again as the flip to "Full Time Thing (Between Dusk And Dawn)" but unfortunately wasn't released on the 12" version of it as it was the A side that saw most of the action back in the day.  These were the only two releases from the group.

Izipho released an instrumental version (from 1985 I believe) in 2019 which is a completely different arrangement and interpretation using a 21 Piece orchestra. The new version presented here has a new vocal by Sandi Everett who was an original Whirlwind with her brothers Charles and Edward (Eddie) Ancrum ... who went on to become Charles & Eddie ... only joking!

On the flip is a new extended version of "Let's Play Luck", a track from Lee McDonald's "Sweet Magic" album from 1981 on Debbie .

McDonald was also known as Cleveland Parker and was a member of The Village Soul Choir. In 2019 Izipho Soul released a single by Parker, "How Long", which was a gospel interpretation of "Sweet Magic" the title track of his 1981 album recorded in 1989 which took the song to another level.

The label also released a double-sider of killer cuts from The Village Soul choir's catalogue in Oct 2021. The album only "All Purpose Love" (from "Street Opera With A Blues Waltz") and the 12" version of "Sweet Hot Lips" (1976).

The single is available to pre-order now from Izipho Soul for release on 1 Mar 2023.

NOTE, original shorter versions of both songs also included below for comparison.

VA [2023] - Mellow Dome [Dome] (Full Album)

Having recently released two compilation ("Dome 30 Years Vol 1 & Vol. 2") to celebrate 30 years, the label has released another titled "Mellow Dome" which features '15 mellow soul grooves' spanning their history.

The compilation kicks off with Hil St. Soul's breakthrough single, an acoustic version of Stevie Wonder's song "Until You Come Back To Me" from 2000. In a similar vein is Donna Gardier's version of H-D-H's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)". Another song recorded by Aretha, "Angel", is covered by Dennis Taylor.

Moonchild's Amber Navran crops up on a track from Jarrod Lawson's last album "Be The Change". Terry Callier's "What Color Is Love" is ably covered by Citrus Sun and Valerie Etienne who recently featured with Ernie McKone & Family on a cover of Brenda Russells'  "In The Thick Of It".

A lovely version of Gamble & Huff's "Early Morning Love" by LaAerial & Lasperanza done in '77 by Lou Rawls.

There's a couple of recent singles from Anthony David & Algebra Blessett, and Full Flava.

Those are just a few of the tracks, all predominantly covers, so all in all a very good, laid back album.

The Eight Minutes [2023] - An American Family [BBE/Perception Records] (Full Album)

The 1972 album "An American Family" by The Eight Minutes has been reissued digitally today (17 Feb '222). Perhaps it's in response to Aaron Frazer covering their 1973 single "Looking For A Brand New Game" (included on the digital reissue as a bonus track not included originally) on his EP "Heart Full Of Love" last month?

Anyway, if you like the early 70s sweet soul sound, ala Stylistics, Delfonics, Chi-Lites,  Blue Magic, Main Ingredient et al, then this will be right up your street.

It would appear that is was reissued on CD in Japan last year in this format with four bonus tracks being both sides of their first single on JayPee ("Here's Some Dances" / "Will You Still Be Mine" 1972) and their last single on Perception ("Looking For A Brand New Game" / "Find The One Who Loves You" 1973). So this looks like a collection of their whole catalogue.

Check out the Aaron Frazer post for some background on The Eight Minutes, rather than repeat it here.
