A new single from Al Green on Matthew Johnson's Oxford, MS,
based Fat Possum Records was released on 21 Aug. It's the Rev.'s version
of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day".
In Dec '20 he released "Before The Next Teardrop Fall" for the label which began life as a country song first recorded by
Duane Dee in 1967. We featured it only last month in the
Creative Funk Discography
as it was also recorded by The Limelites on Creative Funk in 1975.
In between both singles Fat Possum released "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy) (Orchestral)" (Aug '21) from a later album "Give Me More Love (The Orchestral Greatest Hits)" (Sep '21).
The label has also reissued many of Green's albums over the years since it
was set up in the late 90s.
We have to go back to 2008 and "Lay It Down" for his last set of original
material for Blue Note. Green is now 77 so we wonder whether there are likely to be
any more new albums, although his voice still sounds good on the latest recording, but of course we don't know when it was actually recorded?
