Houston Outlaws [2023] - Ain't No Telling / It's No Fun Being Alone [Kent #TOWN 175]

Ace/Kent has released a couple of vinyl 7"s today (27 Jan '23). The first  from the Houston Outlaws"Ain't No Telling" was originally released as the flip to Unique Blend "Yes I'm In Love" by Kent in 2007, and has been paired with a sweet soul side "It's No Fun Being Alone" on the flip, both originally released separately in 1971.

Although named the Houston Outlaws, they recorded just three singles on Detroit's Westbound label in 1971-72. The first being "Ain't No Telling" / "Uncle Ed's Backyard" in May 1971, followed by "I Just Got Be Loving You" / "It's No Fun Being Alone" (Dec 1971) and finally "What Am I Gonna Do" / "Sweet Thing" in Nov 1972.

In 2003 BGP issued a previously unreleased a funky number by them "Soul Power" on the flip to Freddie Wilson "In Born Soul". It's probably more typical of the output of Westbound at the time who had Ohio Players and Funkadelic signed to the label.

I also discovered another, presumably unreleased, track by them, a funky instrumental titled "Backyard", on a compilation "The Music City Sessions Volume 2: Super Strut" which was released in 2011 by Omnivore/Ace and also contained "I Just Got Be Loving You".
