Those of us of a certain age will immediately recognise the basis for
this new single "So Good" from Lank G (Langston Jeremiah Gardner) from Dallas,
TX, released today (30 Jul 2022). A video for it premieres tonight at 21:00 (BST/UK time).
It is, of course, a Gamble & Huff song by
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (feat. Theodore Pendegrass and
Sharon Paige
to give it its full billing) and another from the 1975 album "Wake Up Everybody" (as was Dave Lee's Philly Mix of "Don't Leave Me This Way" posted yesterday) "You Know How To Make Me Feel So Good", which has cropped up a few times recently.
The song was also recorded by
Collins & Collins
on their one and only, self-titled, album in 1980 which had their modern
soul gem, a cover of Ashford & Simpson's "Top Of The Stairs" on it.
The Legendary Bluenotes
feat. (the so-called deceased!!!) Jean Carn recorded it in 2019 which was
reissued in 2021.
I also recall a couple of other tracks from last year that used it as a
sample: Atiya on "Smooth Operator" and a horrendous lo-fi track that sounds like it was recorded in a
bathroom by L8nC Feat. ProdByBrandon "Ryhme Right"
