Frank Fioravanti's Sound Gems Records has released the second single from
Davante DeVaughn on 10 Feb 2022. Like his first
single, it's a cover of a classic. The first was William DeVaughn's
"Be Thankful for What You Got" (5 Jan 2022) and the latest is 'The Last Soul Man' Bobby
Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now" from his iconic 1981 album "The Poet". Womack co-wrote the song with
Patrick Moten and Richard Griffin.
Whether this stands up against Womack's original I couldn't possibly
comment but you can decide yourself as I've included his original along with
several subsequent covers from Lynn White (1988), K-Ci (1994), Garland Green
(2001), Kashief Lindo (2004) and Wayne Hernandez (2014) and a more recent
one by Omar Wilson who has released another cover this weekend of "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know", a Blood, Sweat & Tears song covered by Donny Hathaway who's
rendition is regarded as the the definitive version.
