The Real Thing have released a new album today "A Brand New Day". It includes a live version of "Children Of The Ghetto" which I thought I'd post separately as it's also been released as a
single and there are a few good covers of the song which I'd like to
post.
Written by brothers Chris and Eddie Amoo, it first appeared on their
second album "4 From 8" in 1977 and then as the flip side to their hit "Can You Feel The Force" in 1979. As far as I'm aware it has never been released as an A
side.
The new recording features Chris Amoo on lead vocals on the track for the first time. The original was sung by Ray Lake and then Eddie Amoo who are both now deceased.
The song has been covered a number of times, first by EWF's
Phillip Bailey in 1984 and then UK saxophonist
Courtney Pine (only mentioned yesterday as a one time member
of Hi-Tension on the Patrick McLean post) on his debit album "Journey To The Urge Within" which featured one time Supreme Susaye Greene on vocals and
was also released as a single. Mary J. Blige has also performed it live.
