Jay King [2021] - All My Love (All Night Long) [Self Released]

Jay King was the founder of the 80s/90s  group Club Nouveau, born out of the break up of Timex Social Club after only a year, in 1986. 

He's released his third solo album "Soulful Bossanova" which is only available direct from his website. The lead single from the album is "All Your Love (All Night Long)" which he posted on his YT channel at the end of June. I can't find anywhere selling it so I guess the only way to get it is by buying the album?

He describes the album as "a mixture of jazz, rhythm & blues, samba and Brazilian new trend (bossa nova) and its a beautiful blend of instruments, voices and lyrics", but there are no sound samples available to preview, so it looks like a case of buying blind, but if the single is anything to go by, it could be pretty good?

Psychodelic Frankie [197?] - Putting You Out Of My Life / Donna [Hi-Speed #101670]

Bringing back some 'credibility' from the madness of the last few posts, I've delved back for some self-indulgence with this post (before I lose the plot!). 

A highly sought-after crossover item that I originally thought was a one-off from Frankie Snowden aka Psychodelic Frankie from Norristown, PA. However, he did release at least one other single (a 12") "With You" in 1986, on Budweiser Showdown (BSR-627). The song was written for, and sung to, his wife Patty Ann.

In 1973 he was guitarist / vocalist with Spiritual Concept which contained musicians who would go on to perform on sessions with several well known Philly bands such as MFSB, The Salsoul Orchestra, John Davis Monster Orchestra, First Choice, Archie Bell & The Drells and many others, i.e. Larry Washington and Theodore Life (T. Life). He seemed to be a very well respected singer in and around his home town in the outskirts of Philly. He sadly passed in August last year.

"With You" is featured on an excellent compilation titled "Richard Searling Music From The Soul" released on Expansion in 2005 (which, I believe is still available to purchase). By a sheer coincidence this CD also contains Charlie Mitchell's "After Hours" which was reissued digitally (and posted here) last week. It has also got one of my all time favourite ballads by Chuck Cissel - "Love Is Missing From Our Lives", from his 1982 album "If I Had A Chance" if you've not heard this you're in for a treat! It's a Tony Hester song originally recorded by The Dells/The Dramatics in 1975 but I prefer Chuck Cissel's version.

Another favourite is on the CD, Freddie Hughes & The Chevelles - "I Just Found Out" which, like Charlie Mitchell, was released on Janus, which is a label dear to my heart as one of the very first soul records I bought was on the label by The Detroit Emeralds 49 years ago!

There's plenty of other crackers on the CD, which is well worth checking out and is still cheap (£10 or less).

Anders [2021] - All I Know (Honest LP) [NST]

As you can probably tell, I'm dredging the remnants of last weekend's releases not already posted, but because I don't particularly 'feel' them doesn't necessarily mean that others won't like them.

Anders is another artist from Toronto. I must have featured well over a dozen artists from there in recent weeks (e.g. Loony, Charlotte Day Wilson, Boomtang All-Stars, Claire Davis, Gina P, Erez Zobary, dvsn, Beatchild, Jeff Kearns, Noa, Amaka Quenette, Liza (Yohannes), Kristina Alcordo, Melanie Durrant, Rochelle Jordan, Big Jacks featuring Angela Apigo, THEHONESTGUY, Joanna Majoko, Sean Oliver etc.).

He released a new album "Honest" on Friday (30 Jul 2021) which is another 'one-track' only album as the only one that remotely appeals is "All I Know", and again it's pretty R&B oriented. It looks like his third or fourth album so date since 2017.

Gabriel & Kállay Saunders [2021] - bujtsy [dojang]

I had this from Gabriel and Kállay Saunders lined up to post last week (it was released Friday 30 Jul 2021) but better tracks superseded it, but as good newies are drying up I'll offer it up for your appreciation!

I guess you can call it R&B flavoured neo soul, but what on earth is a "bujtsy"? .. answers on a postcard!

Gabriel is from Budapest and Kállay Saunders is a Hungarian/American who represented Hungary in the Eurovision song contest in 2014. Google translate still doesn't translate 'bujtsy' in Hungarian ... so maybe it's a naughty word!

Kállay's father is Fernando Saunders, a Detroit musician who worked as bassist with Hamilton Bohannon in the 70s and Lou Reed in the 80s, amongst many others. Kállay is actually his mother's maiden name (Katalin Kállay, who was a Hungarian super model in the 70s/80s). His 'given' name is András Kállay-Saunders. So now you know, a bit of useless information for you to do with what you will!

UPDATE ... because I want you to be able to sleep well tonight without worrying about what a bujtsy is ... here you go: A bujtsy is like a bean bag but filled with memory foam and usually fur-lined! .. a song about a fur lined bean bag ... I think I've heard it all now! ... it just had to be posted!

Joshua Triplett [2021] Sixteen Monologues (2nd Act) [Jtripnation]

Joshua Triplett is not only a writer, singer, producer but also an actor who has appeared in a US situation comedy TV series "The Neighborhood". His family also have their own show called "The Tripplett Family Network" which has just been given a second series.

He's been recording since around 2012 and has just released a new five track EP "Sixteen Monologues (2nd Act)" on 1 Aug 2021. Only one track appeals to me and that's "The Feeling" (which was released as a single on 3 Jun), the others are too R&B oriented for me, but I'll post the full EP for you R&B lovers!

Romeo Saints [2021] - I Believe in Love [Self Released]

A self released tune "I Believe In Love" from Romeo Saints released yesterday (2 Aug 2021). It's the only thing I can find from him/them who appear to be from Salford, Manchester so I presume it's the first release. 

I may be wrong but the vocals sound 'blue-eyed' and are a bit 'weak' in places but the tune itself isn't a bad dance track I suppose! I had a couple of little chuckles: at 2:03 when someone speaks/announces 'that was perfect' (in a Manc accent!) and at the end (3:05) with the Michael Jackson 'impression', priceless!

Jake Exavier [2021] - Life [Oaks Way Recordings]

Jake Exavier (Thomas) is a 23 yr old independent artist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  In 2014, aged 16, he twice won first place at the Apollo Theatre. 

He released a new single "Life" yesterday (2 Aug 2021) which will be his sixth single this year along with an album "On My Way"

He released his first single in 2019 "Upside Down" and followed that year with three more and an album "Into You", but nothing last year.
