It's time for the talcum! Blue-eyed neo Northern Soul from a singer
called Jodie (Richardson) from Norfolk, now living in
Kilburn, London.
"Pushover" is her debut single, released today (23 Jul 2021) and is actually a
pretty good effort, which is not too surprising as Jodie has been involved with the Mod soul scene since she was 19 so knows
the 'right sound' where so many attempts to reproduce the NS sound fail. She
also hosts a monthly show on a new radio station Barrelhouse Radio.
It has more than a bit of Melba Moore's "The Magic Touch" to it at the start! "The Magic Touch" was written by Ted Daryll and
originally recorded
by a blue-eyed pop group
The Bobby Fuller Four
(from El Paso,TX) on Mustang in 1966. It was quite a big tune c 1976
before it was known that an unreleased version by Melba Moore lay in the
Musicor vaults which didn't see the light of day until released on Kent's
100 Club 2nd anniversary give-away 45 in 1986. As that 45 was a give-away
it wasn't an official release. The first official release was the first
release on Ady Croasdell's newly founded Horace's label the following
year. The label released seven singles and three albums during it's
existence between 1987-94.
