Garry J. Cape has just announced the two latest releases from his Hit And
Run label released today (10 Jun 2021).
The first one is a super rare record from Tut Sutton, his only known solo
release although he did release a single as Jackie & Tut & The Big
"O", "Ten Two Double Plus Pts1 & 2" on tiny Chicago label Dawn in
1967, with a national release on Chess re-titled as
"10-2 Double Plus"
and the instrumental version retitled "Hawaiian Punch". It's basically an
instrumental track with local DJ
Herb Kent
rapping over it. The song was written by Tut Sutton, Jackie(?) Edwards
, Don Clay & Victoria Basemore but Sutton & Edwards' names were
dropped from credits on the Chess release.
Herb Kent was a radio broadcaster for 72 years from 1944 aged 16 right
until the day of his death in 2016 aged 88. The longest running DJ in the
history of radio.
Back to the tracks in question, both are good mid-tempo Chicago tunes set
just above beat ballad pace released on USA Records in 1966. There are very
few known copies in existence, it isn't listed on 45Cat and there are no
originals listed on Popsike. I believe that it may have been a promo release
only (which never got an official release) as the only label scans I've seen
are all promos. I can't even find a decent scan of "No Appreciation" on USA.

"No Appreciation" just edges it for me but both are good sides. If you've
got a spare £10k then
John Manship
currently has one listed for sale, otherwise just buy the reissue for £12
and buy a decent used car with the rest!
