Lonnie Hill [1986] - Galveston Bay [10 TEN 111-12]

This has got to be one of the best 80s independent modern soul releases ever.  He re-recorded it in 2008 with a different, more jazz flavoured, mix which, for me, is not as good as the original, but you can decide for yourself.

Lonnie Hill [1986] - Galveston Bay [10 TEN 111-12]

For some strange reason this only ever got a UK single release (on both 7" and 12").  Originally released on 'You Got Me Running' album on Urban Sound in 1984 which is the short 4:03 version whilst the 12" is almost 6 mins.

I never tire of listening to this track, having bought it on release after hearing it on Robbie Vincent's and Steve Aggasild's radio shows mid 80s.

Lonnie Hill [1984] - Cold Cold Winter (In The Ghetto) [Urban Sound US-778]

Modern Soul christmas song plugged by Richard Searling

Lonnie Hill [2008] - Back On The Scene [Hillshideaway]

Having previously only released the one album in 1984, Lonnie Hill made a comeback and in 2008 (24 years later) releasing a 16 track CD with several cover versions and including a remake of Galveston Bay.   I'm not sure what age he would be when he recorded this album, but his voice sounds quite 'old' on some of the tracks.  It would appear that he continued recording and released 'No Games' in 2004, 'I Gotta Be Me' in 2012 and a gospel album 'The Gospel In Me' in 2017.
