Mind & Matter was an 11-piece band from Minneapolis
who released just one single ("I'm Under Your Spell" / "Sunshine Lady") on their own label M&M in 1977 which has been a modern
soul in-demander for many years.
They recorded a batch of 'basement'
demos which Numero Group released for the first time in 2013 on CD and
vinyl consisting of nine tracks. The album is named after the address of where it was recorded. "1514 Oliver Avenue (Basement)".It has been reissued digitally today.
Neither of the single tracks are included on the album as they were
released as a single in 2013 (included below)
The significance of the release is that it was the first foray into
song-writing, arranging and performing for a 16 year old Jimmy 'Jam'
Harris who plays keys on the album.
The rare video footage below a live version of "Disco Child" at Uncle
Sam's in Minneapolis.
The 2013 release is still available on Bandcamp with an additional track.
