An album put our way last week by our good friends at
SoulAndJazzAndFunk is
Alex Cherney & The Brothers Nylon (which is a new name to us both) with "first, last and always". It's their third album, all released since 2020, so how we we
both miss them?
Not only is New Yorker Cherney a musician but also an independent film maker and a
builder. He is featured on the cover of the current Forbes magazine (Jul/Aug '23).
Cherney's latest indie film, "The Have Not", has been three
years in the making and was scheduled for release via Amazon Prime Video
on 21 Aug, however we can't find it listed so perhaps it has been
delayed?
The comically named The Brothers Nylon are indeed brothers, Mike and Nick
Rufello originally from Florida but now Long Island based. Whether or not
they wear nylons we couldn't possibly comment.
It's blue-eyed soul of the sweet and retro kind ala so many blue-eyed
retro artists currently around such as Durand Jones & The Indications,
Aaron Frazier, The Sextones, Kelly Finnigan etc.
Having quickly skimmed the last two albums, this one is not typical, the
last was reggae flavoured and the first retro pop/folk, which may explain why
we neither of us has picked on them previously.
