Last week Mahalia released "Ready" which was the third single ahead of her third full album "IRL" which is out in full today.
Mahalia Burkmar was born in Leicester to a musical family, her mother is Debbion
(Debbie Curry) who recorded with Colourbox in the 80s and her father
toured with Erasure.
She debuted in 2012 and was signed to major label Atlantic Records aged
13 for whom she released her debut album "Diary Of Me" in 2016.
The new album is R&B focussed with a 90's edge and features several
guest artists including Stormzy, JoJo, Joyce Wrice, Destin Conrad and
Kojey Radical.
We had to listen carefully to the title track to understand what "IRL"
actually means and were still none the wiser but checking the urban
dictionary (!) it means 'In Real Life'!
On our first listen the tracks that appeals most are "Hey Stranger" and the last single "Ready" as the remainder is for the younger set which is a bit lost on these
ears as it's on the pop and R&B dark side. Although, listening again to
"In The Bag" it has also grown on us, so perhaps the album needs a few
listens?
The album is available digitally, on CD and vinyl and the CD price is
only £1 more than digital!
