Ed Motta is Brazilian singer-songwriter,
multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer from Rio De Janeiro and is the nephew of Tim Maia who was
instrumental in introducing modern black music to Brazil by linking funk
and samba.
After initially experimenting with rock music and being a member of a
few bands, Motta went solo in 1990 after his first release "Ed Motta
& Conexão Japeri" in 1988. His music isn't strictly soul, he plays
virtually anything from classical, Brazilian music / MPB, jazz, rock,
reggae to pop.
His latest single, after a five years break, is "Safely Far" It's the lead single from an upcoming 14th studio
album "Behind The Tea Chronicles" due on 20 Oct and features Paulette McWilliams and Philip Ingram
(brother of James Ingram and one time member of Motown group Switch) on
background vocals.
