Clarence Carter is perhaps best known in the mainstream for "Patches", a #4 Billboard Hot 100 and #2 UK pop chart hit (his only one) in 1970 (it stayed at #2 for three weeks in Oct-Nov being kept off the top spot by the same song, Matthews Southern Comfort "Woodstock") or perhaps his earlier 1968 hit "Slip Away" covered by many.
He is now 87 yrs old and a remastered
version of his cover of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" was released on Friday (7 Jul) along with an instrumental version. We're not 100% sure when it was originally recorded
but believe that it may have been 1993 on a compilation "Patches".
He was born blind and briefly married to Candi Staton on 9 Aug 1970, they divorced in 1973 and had a son Clarence Jr.
