Not wanting to overshadow King Charles III coronation, but
'The Queen of Philadelphia', TanQueray Hayward, has a new single, "Waiting For You", out yesterday (posted earlier in the week) which channels her inner Motown.
It is from her forthcoming, sophomore, album "Definition of a Woman The Story Continues" due out late summer which, presumably, will also include her last
single "You Lied" released in January.
TanQueray burst onto the scene in 2020 and was awarded 'New Artist of
The Year' by SoulTracks readers after her early recordings, especially
"This Kind Of Love".
She was born in Philadelphia in 1978, and, as with so many of the best
soul vocalists, started singing in church. She left a medical career
(I believe she served in the US Navy as Hospital Corpsman 1st Class)
when she got the opportunity to sing background vocals for pop star
Pink and open for gospel artist Marvin Sapp in Philadelphia. She has
performed with Carol Riddick, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Cedric
Napoleon (Pieces of a Dream), Mozaic Flow, Lee Williams and the
Spiritual QC’s, The Joy Boyz and Shawn “Coco” McMillan.
Her debut album "Definition of a Woman" was initially a website only release in March '21 gaining wider
release in August '21 with two additional tracks.
