The Brooklyn Funk Essentials is a music collective formed in 1993 by Arthur Baker who mix jazz,
funk, and hip hop featuring musicians from different cultures. They
released their seventh album "Intuition" on Friday (5 May '23).
The eight tracks contain their last four singles ("Rollin' (Love Will Be Here)" (Mar '23), "How Happy" (Jan '23), "AA Side Single" (Sep '22), "Scream!" (Jul '22)) all featuring London's Alison Limerick, as are three of the
remaining four new songs, with the other featuring Everton
Sylvester.
Sylvester is a poet and has been with the collective since the beginning and
features on the song "Mama" which is perhaps best described a jazzy, dub reggae rap which is quite
effective!
That song, along with the soulful and jazzy "Unkissed" and the funky and jazzy "Sho'nuff", both featuring Alison Limerick, from the new material would be our recommendations, but it's a solid
album throughout.
A music video for the title track "Intuition" (which has an acid jazz feel which sounds like a cross between Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai) ) premiered on their YouTube channel on
Friday perhaps suggesting that it is the one they are going with for the new
single?
