Kay Young was born in South London to a musical family and
debuted in 2019 having taught herself to play drums and experiment with
technical software, making beats on a whim quickly becoming a
self-styled producer and her early demos caught the attention of Jay Z and Roc Nation.
Since 2019 she's now released around ten singles and her fourth EP "We Meet At Last" was released last Friday (14 Apr). It's original, contemporary, jazz
edged hip-hip/neo soul. If only all neo soul was like this i.e. original
and not so derivative and 'cookie cutter'!
The killer cut for me is "Oooh" which unfortunately is only one of two tracks that there is no music
video for.
Kay has featured here a couple of times with her version of "Feels Like Making Love" which also featured on the
Blue Note Re:imagined
compilation.
