Northern Soul community rallies to help find muggers

By now, if you are remotely involved in Northern Soul, you will have already seen the story on social media, which has also been reported by the BBC and NME and various other national outlets.  If not, 72 year old renown Northern Soul DJ Ted Massey's Birmingham home was invaded after returning from gig in Nottingham on Sunday night.
He was held to ransom by two men who demanded that he hand over two cases of records containing around 250 singles with an estimated value of £150k-£250k. Many of these records are extremely rare and irreplaceable and you can only imagine the grief that Ted must be suffering, not only from the loss, but the despicable and brutal act of being robbed in your own home. We haven't posted anything as an admirable job has already been done on social media.

However, what we would like to share though is that a GoFundMe page was set up earlier today with the goal of raising a £10k reward for information leading to the arrest of the assailants and already, within only four hours, over £8k has been donated.

It is believed that Ted must have been followed home after the gig. Many think that the records may have been stolen to order to ship overseas as the tight knit Northern Soul community will sniff out any attempt to sell the records on the internet or to dealers. DJs, collectors and dealers know who owns most rare records and if these come up for sale it will immediately alert suspicion. Let's hope that they are stupid enough to do this and get caught and the records are returned safely to their rightful owner and that these low-life scum get what they deserve. Thankfully Ted wasn't harmed physically but the mental anguish of such an experience will live on long after any sentence that these offenders will receive if/when caught.

Security video cam footage has been posted on social media showing two or three men outside Ted's home which has been shared by many so hopefully one would hope that it will only be a matter of time before they are caught, especially now with a large reward which shouldn't really be necessary for people to do the right thing. If you recognise the thug below then contact your local police.

  1. Sad time when people are attacked for vinyls. I can only sympathize with the sadness of this DJ which I can understand as a former collector.
