A four track EP "The Anthropomorphic Fantasy EP" from UK outfit BYAMM was initially released on Bandcamp and
posted here in Feb '22 and
reposted in Mar
when it was available on the main digital platforms. We said at the time
that is was going to be available on vinyl and that day has finally come
a year later.
Whilst "Shine" is perhaps the standout, all tracks are pretty good and are all in an
80s groove. I'm not able to find out anything about the band, nor find any
other material by them (under that name at least), so I don't know if
these are vintage tracks getting their first airing or newly recorded
tracks with an old school feel.
We noted that all tracks are written by Barima Yaw Asante and Matthew Myatt, so assumed that the name BYAMM
is simply their initials. We now know from the back cover of the vinyl
release that the group consists of singers Ade Omotayo (Gorrilaz / Amy
Winehouse), Kevin Mark Trail (The Streets / Mike Skinner), Derek Green
(Robbie Williams), Sharlene Hector (Basement Jaxx), Emily Holligan
(Michael Kiwanuka), bass player Dale Davis (Amy Winehouse’s Music
Director), guitarist Tony Reme (Incognito/OMAR), guitarist Rob Harris
(Jamiroquai) & Barima Yaw Asante (songwriter / keys / producer ) &
Matt Myatt (beats / co-production)…aka the initials BYAMM as we
suspected. So the quality of the EP is therefore not surprising.
